Spring has sprung…

Spring has sprung and the sun’s not hid
I saw more robins, yes I did!!

And that is my contribution to poetry.  A poet I am not!

It is a beautiful day.  The sun is shining brightly with hardly any wind and the temp is in the 50s.  It actually feels like spring today.

I have been to Kroger’s and picked up a few things which amounted to almost $80.  You see, our Kroger store is in the process of remodeling and they have several rows of clearance items and for some reason I can’t pass up a bargain whether I need it or not.  On the downside they are changing all of the aisles around and it takes forever to find anything.  It took me 4 years to know where everything in the store was and now I have to learn all over again.

Tomorrow I make the raisin pie, brownies, macaroni salad, and potato salad.  I found a recipe on the internet for macaroni salad with bacon and ranch dressing, etc.  I have decided on that recipe.  I probably won't be online for the next couple of days.

Enjoy this lovely day that He has given us!  Stay safe and be happy!!

Just think….

tomorrow is the first day of Spring.  I think I started counting down at 77 days.

The snow is all melted from the ground except for gigantic dirty snow banks in the parking lots at the store.  It is 44 degrees with an expected high of 45 degrees.  It is pouring down rain very nicely right now.  I had planned to go to Kroger for a few things this morning but I will wait until tomorrow now.

My son is coming home this weekend and we are celebrating his birthday which is April 8th.  I am getting ready to fix requested things such as a raisin pie which I haven’t made for some 40 odd years.  Also macaroni salad which I haven’t fixed in a blue moon.  If anyone has an exceptional easy recipe for macaroni salad please send it to me in an email.  I also have purchased a spiral sliced ham.  This will be mostly things I can fix the day before.  I think I will make the mandarin orange salad too which I love.

I have an update on my brother.  He saw the surgeon yesterday morning.  The surgeon didn’t agree with the radiologist that had read the CT scan.  So my brother will be scheduled for further tests until someone makes up their mind.  Very nerve wracking  for my brother and his wife and for Rae and me too.  I will keep you updated and thank you all for your prayers.

I saw my first robin day before yesterday.  I was in my car and I was mesmerized by the sight of it.  It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

And for my friend Mari in Madrid who is learning English:

mes·mer·ize

ˈmezməˌrīz/

verb

past tense: mesmerized; past participle: mesmerized

  1.

hold the attention of (someone) to the exclusion of all else or so as to transfix them.

  2. ********************************************

Yesterday I took a list of things to the rental office that I wanted done  before I signed my lease the first of April.  I came home yesterday and there were 2 guys inside here fixing all of the things I had on my list, including changing a light bulb  in the kitchen.  I will say that all of the guys that do maintenance here are really great!!  Very efficient and friendly.

I hope the sun is shining for you all today.  Stay safe and be happy!!

I suffered a…

nearly sleepless night thanks to the time change and the after effects of the gorgeous stuffed pizza.  My tummy is really mad at me today and my eyes are all puffy.  And it is not a good hair day either.  Oh the misery afforded the over the hill gang.  Did I learn my lesson, well for a few days anyway.  My son called me last night and told me not to eat any more of the stuff, just to package and put it in the freezer for him.  Problem solved.

It is another spectacular morning, bright sunshine and a temp of 43 right now.  It is to be mid 60s today and into the mid 70s all week after some rain tonight.  The countdown to Spring stands at 8 days, ever inching closer to the 20th of March.  The robins are thick in the front yard now and the lot between me and the cemetery is also filled with them.

from the internet

I hope to get out for a walk in the cemetery this afternoon.  there is so much of it I haven’t explored yet.

Gas is $3.99 a gallon here in town now.  There should be some kind of solution for that.  I feel sorry for those minimum wage earners and us poor old fixed income folks having to fill the gas tank each week. There goes 3/4 of our paycheck.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.  Stay safe and be happy!!

First day of Spring

Not sure when Spring is scheduled to start?  http://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-spring-vernal-equinox  I see it is 1:14 AM  EST on 20 March so that would make it 12:14 AM CST.   I think that means there are exactly 34 days left on the countdown to Spring.  So far I haven’t seen a single sign of Spring.   And although I heard we had robins stay here all winter not one has been gracious enough to honor me with his presence.

Where I was living before in this tiny little town of 4300 the local newspaper was published on Thursday.  Each week on Thursday I would center my blog around the local news.  Mostly feel good stuff with the occasional driving under the influence, etc.  I already knew all of this stuff because I had a scanner that I listened to that kept me up to date.    There is a lot more news where I live now and each day someone  is shot or murdered in the Peoria area.  Right now the headlines are ‘Search efforts continue for a missing 73 year old man with Alzheimer’s Disease.’  This is happening so frequently anymore.  This man has been missing since Sunday and I am sure his family is frantic by now.  This brings to mind “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks.  A beautiful story.  I  read the book and have seen the movie.  Makes me cry every time.

Rain is on tap here today through tomorrow.  It is 35 degrees right now.  I have a doctor appointment in the morning so I hope it is through raining by then.

All for now.  I hope you all have a peaceful day.  I am praying that the 73 year old man is found safe.

You all stay safe and be happy!!
