It is 37 degrees this morning and still drizzly and dreary out. Everything has greened up nicely because of all of the rain. I saw tulip trees and forsythia bushes in full bloom yesterday. The trees are budded out and I saw crocus and daffodil in bloom. The tulips and iris are well above the ground but not anywhere near ready to bloom yet. YES! even though it is cold and drizzly out, spring has finally arrived in central Illinois.
I was really engrossed in the Arias trial yesterday. Alyce Laviolette was answering jury questions, There were really some zingers. To be quite honest I am getting tired of looking at her and I will be glad when she gets to go back to California. I think that I will write a book about battered trial watchers and become famous. I will then be qualified to be an expert witness in some kind of kangaroo court.
*****************************
Slang of U.S. origin.] An unfair, biased, or hasty judicial proceeding that ends in a harsh punishment; an unauthorized trial conducted by individuals who have taken the law into their own hands, such as those put on by vigilantes or prison inmates; a proceeding and its leaders who are considered sham, corrupt, and without regard for the law.
The concept of kangaroo court dates to the early nineteenth century. Scholars trace its origin to the historical practice of itinerant judges on the U.S. frontier. These roving judges were paid on the basis of how many trials they conducted, and in some instances their salary depended on the fines from the defendants they convicted. The term kangaroo court comes from the image of these judges hopping from place to place, guided less by concern for justice than by the desire to wrap up as many trials as the day allowed.

And this the extent of my words of wisdom for you all on Friday. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
I called my mom last night to see how she was and she said "Keith let me call you back I am watching a story about the Arias trial" LOL
ReplyDeleteOh Beth I laughed at Optimistic Existentialist comment I must say I do not know anything about this trial but it sounds gripping to say the least. Enjoy stay safe in this weather, it is freezing rain here. B
ReplyDeleteI am sick of listening to the her on the stand. It is really getting ridiculous...kind of like beating a dead dog. I say you and I would be great jury panel members, Beth! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteBeth,
ReplyDeleteYou do not have to become a professional to know that some of those people are lying...even after swearing to tell the truth. The rain did help green things up. I know you had about the same weather we have had. Stay safe. xoxo,Susie
I thoroughly agree with you but still cannot stop watching. Raining here this AM. Not too cold, but am turning on oven now to bake PB cookies.
ReplyDeleteGlad spring is making its presence felt. Our weather has regressed a bit again, but it is supposed to be warm and sunny on Sunday. I have two planters in the garden, which have had daffs blooming in them for a few weeks now, it is amazing, they have been knocked down by the wind, covered in snow etc etc, but still they perk up stand tall and sunny coloured for me to view from my kitchen window.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for spring! It's slowly sneaking in here in Arkansas. :)
ReplyDeleteI really don't know anything about the trial but I can imagine how you could get wrapped up in it...
Have a great weekend, Beth!
Blessings,
Tammy
yay for spring rains, melts and blooms!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been paying any attention to the trial and don't know what is going on. In fact, I do know that I feel that girl is guilty. There is just something about her that I can't stand and I think she is a very good liar!
ReplyDeleteI know nothing of the trail either but it sounds interesting, have a wonderful weekend, I'm enjoying the flowers in your header, what a calming photos, so soft and lovely
ReplyDeleteShe's creative, to be sure. So many stories. I'm not sure when I've seen a longer case.
ReplyDeleteThat is one bizarre trial, I have seen bits and pieces of it and don't quite know what to make of it. I try to remember that we all have a right to a fair trial and to be considered innocent until proven guilty and leave it at that. I was happy to see things blooming here as well yippee! spring is near!
ReplyDeleteI used to be an avid watcher of real crime shows on TruTV but have since kind of fallen away from it. Maybe it's been replaced from real news stories I follow now...there are plenty of examples of kangaroo style things there!
ReplyDeleteWarm and humid here. My head aches. I don't watch crime stuff on TV. It's too scary. Besides, I only have local channels.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Living through the winter makes seeing spring burst forth even more beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteTurn that TV off:) It's not worth all the stupid stress! Have a good weekend!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you finally have some spring blooms!
ReplyDeleteThat trial is driving my mom bonkers! I like what you had to say about it.
Happy Friday to you!
Well, you have taught us something today, Beth. I don't know anything about that trial.
ReplyDeleteSending wishes for a good week-end to you! xo Nellie
I think the term kangaroo court isn't fair to the kangaroos not that we all love them some really detest them mostly farmers and such since they can do so much harm.
