OK, Where did Monday go?

I spent several hours  at the hospital with my daughter yesterday.  My son in law had knee replacement surgery.  He did just fine.  As soon as he was awake and on his way to his room I came home.  I am not much on hospitals, having spent many days and nights in the hospital with Jim in 2006.  But that is in the past and this is the future. Mike starts his therapy this morning and will probably get to go home on Wednesday.  This will be a long few weeks for him I imagine.

I read a friend’s blog this morning about counting cows mooing trying to get to sleep.  I thought about what I do in the same situation.  After prayers if I am having trouble falling asleep, I recite the first  line of the TOPS pledge over and over in my head.  “I am an intelligent person, I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me.”  Say that out loud and stop and think how many time we let our emotions control us.  This usually causes us to say or do something that we are very sorry for almost immediately.  Hey, you are saying, how did this old gal know this.  I went to TOPS for several years when my children were small, in addition to working a full time job etc. Actually, a bad thing to do.  Winking smile  Lose 2 lbs one week and gain it right back.  I played with that same 2 lbs for several years.  Now I have a strict exercise program that I do each morning.

I am doing laundry this morning, the last is in the dryer.  Then I need to go to the store as I am out of a few things.  This afternoon, a quick trip to the hospital to see how my son in law is doing.  I hope this week is turning out to be a good one for you all.  Remember, we are just as happy as we let ourselves be.  Stay safe!

Red heart  Beth

  1. Spending years working in a school, I imagine myself cleaning a chalkboard. It's dull, it's boring and after just a few I'm gone.

Wishing your son-in-law a speedy recovery.

  2. I know all about the knee surgery---it will be a full week before the pain subsides, but he can recover rapidly if he moves ASAP! I was awake last night at 3:00 and had a heck of a time getting back to sleep. It seemed like the whole world was crashing down on me---but this morning things do look brighter. I've been having some stomach problems---probably due to stress---but refuse to let them RULE! Thanks for the good thoughts!

  3. Now that's a mantra to live by! I'm writing that down :)
Knee surgery is tough but everyone always is very happy once recovery comes about. I have more friends here that have had that done in the last couple of years. All of them said the same thing that Cindy said: Move asap for good recovery even if it hurts.
Grocery store for me today, too. Senior Day and I love the discounts! The only thing I don't do is steal Sweet 'n Low, lol.
Beth, oh come on, 2 lbs. LOL. Want to trade? No, I didn't think you would hahahahaha.

  5. Hi Beth,

Pleased your s.i.l. is doing well and pray he continues to do so. Love what you said about emotions, I must write that down too and remember to say it. It is horrible when you cannot sleep, it doesnt happen to me often, when it does, I usually pray. Hugs Nita

  6. Hi Twin. Been a very long time since I had the pleasure of reading or reciting those lines (I went there too 100 years ago) and so glad your son-in-law is out from under that and on his way to a great recovery.

  8. Hi Beth, just managing to get round friends blogs, and it's hard work I sometimes I feel not enough peeps pay me attention, [am I vain or what?] but at times like this I'm glad I haven't go too many,
My friend Avril has had knee surgery lately I'm taking her to hospital on Thursday for some physio and she's hoping she gets the green light to drive, later she's having the other done, I feel ill just thinking about that, so your SIL will be fine.
When I can't sleep I often say my mantra 'sleep, sleep, sleep, etc, till I do, it often works. Now that I've blown the secret it probably won't work any more.
Thanks for posting on my holiday blog I've added the rest and will post some photos later when I get them.
Hope you have a good night to-night. sleep, sleeep, sleeep, sleeeeep, sleeeeeeeeeeeeep. LOL

  10. Good gracious, Beth, you are sooooo fast. How on earth did you enter a comment when I'd barely put up the post, lol. You're too, too good at this hahahaha.
Now the tv has a running warning of tornado watches and severe thunderstorms for the rest of tonight and all the way til 9:30am. I can never sleep when tornado watches or warnings come up. After being in one, I keep an eye open and ready for the dash with the cats to the basement. So, another night of no sleep, drat.

  12. Hi Beth glad to hear your son-in-law has had his op and doing fine. If I can't get to sleep I read a few pages of my favourite book. They say lettuce leaves induce sleep.!! Enjoy your day and shopping , not a bad day here after all the rain last night.
    Hugs Sheila.

  13. I hope your son-in-law heals up quickly from his surgery.

When I have trouble sleeping (which is rare) I get up and go sleep on our living room couch. That usually does the trick for me :-)
