Waiting for an update…

on my brother-in-law.  When I get one I will share it with you all.  Thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts.

I have done nothing but rest the last few days, waiting for the antibiotic to kick in.  I think one minute I feel better and the next minute I don’t.  I noticed yesterday afternoon that the lilacs in the cemetery across from my back door were in bloom.  So I walked across the grassy lot to check them out.  It was a mistake because the wind was blowing at a pretty good clip and I wished I had kept my old sick self inside.

On the way across the lot I spied the first weed flower that blooms in Illinois in the springtime.  The beloved dandelion that we pay big bucks to the exterminator to eradicate from our yards.  I can remember eating many a dandelion green when I was growing up which is one reason I am not at all fond of greens of any kind now.

I also noticed while clopping through the grass that there was still a lot of the debris from the tornado in the grass.  Lots of pieces of shingles and some fairly large pieces of wood slivers.  I think these will play havoc with the lawn mowers when they start to mow.  Which should be soon because the grass is at least 6 inches high.

Then I moved on to the the first lilac bush.  This is a beautiful cemetery and it has a lot of lilac bushes surrounding it.  The cemetery is very large and usually one or two days a week if I look out my kitchen window I can see a burial taking place.  A lot of history in that place.  http://www.genealogytrails.com/ill/tazewell/zzzlakesidelist.html

Breakfast at the River Boat…

this morning with my daughter and son in law.  A very nice buffet.  I tried not to eat to much even though  it was tempting.

Yesterday was a busy day.  My daughter and I went to Farm and Fleet and did a bit of Christmas shopping.  They have a very good selection of baking items too, pecans, walnuts, baking chips, marshmallow cream all at a very good price.  Walnuts at $5.99 a lb. and pecans at $7.99 a lb. All ready for Christmas baking.

I took a walk over to the cemetery yesterday afternoon.  There is still one beautiful tree over there with the leaves a lovely color of dark red.  The grass is green in the cemetery.  The last time I walked there the grass was dry and crunchy.  We have had quite a lot of rain this fall and are closing the rain deficit caused by the drought.

I guess I will call this the last pretty tree of the season.  Notice the green grass in the picture below.  Taken 8 Nov 2012.

I hope you all have a peaceful weekend.  Stay safe and be happy!!

More Lakeside Cemetery…

To answer a lot of questions from family and friends;  no, I don’t mind living by a cemetery at all.

Oh, I ain't afraid of dying
Lord, it's the living that scares me to death.”

Lakeside Cemetery…

One of my blogging friends asked me about the cemetery that is literally in my back yard.  Well, not quite, but almost.  lol  I have tried to research this cemetery but there is little information to be found on internet searches.  I personally know that some of the graves date back to the early 1800s.  I have not walked all of the cemetery but my daughter has and confirmed this for me.  My walks aren’t all that inclusive; after all I am 20 years older than her.
