One of my blogging friends asked me about the cemetery that is literally in my back yard. Well, not quite, but almost. lol I have tried to research this cemetery but there is little information to be found on internet searches. I personally know that some of the graves date back to the early 1800s. I have not walked all of the cemetery but my daughter has and confirmed this for me. My walks aren’t all that inclusive; after all I am 20 years older than her.
The sign… The mausoleum…
A couple of the pictures I took on one of my walks there.
I hope you all have a good week. Stay safe and be happy!!

Good Monday morning, Beth. I hope it is cooler for you now, with the chance of rain perhaps in your forecast. It has truly been a hot, dry summer! I hope you are doing your walking when it is not so hot. My outside activity just comes to a halt when it reaches the temperatures we have had.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the cemetery has been in existence for many, many years.
Have a good day!

well, as long as you're not 'spooked' by them, cemeteries can be peaceful places.
ReplyDeleteHow does that old saying go? I am not scared of dying, it is the living that scares me to death.
DeleteI always think that cemetaries are interesting places filled with tributes to and memories of real people who lived real lives. It is fascinating to walk around cemetaries, look at the grave markers and tomb stones and wonder or imagine what that person was like. I hope yo have a good Monday.
ReplyDeleteThe stories that could be told by most of those markers occupants would be so interesting. Glad the hot weather has calmed down.
ReplyDeleteI have a large collection of tombstone epitaphs and a list of famous last words. I think you might enjoy reading some of it. There are too many to put on here but here's one of my favorites: In a cemetery in Hartscombe, England…
ReplyDelete"On the 22nd of June,
Jonathan Fiddle went out of tune."
That is really a good one!!
DeleteIt's a lovely cemetary.
ReplyDeleteOh I truly love the peacefullness of a cemetary. B
ReplyDeleteI love old cemeteries, I don't know why! I imagine they might be a little spooky on a foggy night . . . but it the day light I find them very beautiful and peaceful. I like reading the head stones.
ReplyDeleteI have found quite a lot of cemeteries on my walks. I always like walking around them. I find them peaceful.
ReplyDeleteOoooh cemeteries are beautifully haunting. I don't think I'd be able to live so close to one though. I do remember doing crayon rubbings of very old gravestones at a cemetery in my town. I don't think you can do that anymore though.

Cemeteries are so interesting, but also sad when you come across the grave of a child.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your visit/kind comments on my blog.
Have a restful evening.
That looks pretty! Growing up we lived right behind a cemetery also and as children we were so afraid! Too funny when I think of it now as an adult! Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDeleteSome people don't like to be around cemeteries, but I always think they seem like such peaceful places. It looks pretty there.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I walk around the cemetery where our dads are buried and read the headstones. We both have lived most of our lives here, so we know a lot of the people or their relatives. Sometimes we are surprised to find out someone has died. I agree that they are peaceful during the day, but I wouldn't be caught dead there at night....or should I say that's the ONLY way I would be there at night. Some of the newer headstones have photographs of the person and some have the things they enjoyed in life....like a Harley Davidson motorcyle....lol. It's interesting to see what people want posterity to know about them.
ReplyDeletenice post your sharing here thanks looking for to visit more...blessings
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd mind living by one either. Your's is so well taken care of!
ReplyDeleteI think cemeteries are so peaceful and calm. They make quiet neighbors, that's for sure. Yours is taken well care of, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI just love old cemeteries, the history and the lives they once lived. To read the stones is fascinating, too. Thank you for sharing a bit of this history near you!
ReplyDeleteThey're actually pretty nice and quiet & are better than snoopy neighbours. So yes, I like taking the off stroll through one for the same reason as I enjoy sitting by myself in cathedrals and churches. There is a very rare form of tranquillity in cemeteries that is hard to find in other places.
