Hummingbird in December in Illinois?

http://www.pjstar.com/photos/x1646546233/Annas-Hummingbird-Found-In-Chillicothe-Causing-a-Stir

Yes, it is so.  Click on the link above to read all about it.  Quite a phenomenon, first one ever to be spotted in Illinois (just a few miles from me) and in December, rare indeed.  Be sure and look at all of the photos.  They are beautiful.

It is too cold here this morning to go bird-watching, although I do love to do that.  It was 7 degrees F this morning with a below zero wind chill.  I have been running back and forth doing laundry and got my tootsies cold, also my hands.  Smile  Now I have to go out and clean the snow off the car and warm it up as I have some shopping to do this morning.  Yes, we got some more snow yesterday afternoon after I had cleaned the car all off in the morning.  Perhaps I will come into a few million today and I can live in a warmer climate in the winter.  LOL  Just kidding of course, who in their right mind would ever leave the joy of ice and snow in central Illinois?  Not me??  I love it.

My cookie making is all done.  My freezer is the trunk of my car.  Right now it is filled with cookies and candy, so if I ever get stranded in a snow bank anywhere I will have something to eat.  Seriously, I do love Illinois, I just don’t like ice and snow.

Gotta get moving now.  Places to go, things to do and people to see.  Have a wonderful day.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Red heart  Beth

  2. Those were some great pictures. I just hate to go out in this weather for anything, yet it's funny that we wouldn't live anywhere else. I think you "emergency stash" is a great one ;-). My shopping is done and with these temps. I a very glad about that.

  3. I didn't know those readheaded type of hummingbirds visited the East (or Midwest) at any time. In NY we have only the grey-green ones with only the throat being red. I am currently in CA missing all the ice and snow which, my brother assures me, is all about my NY abode. Here it is 60 degrees. But I lived most of my life in snowless places - California, Saudi, Alabam, Texas - and I must say I kind of love being back in NY where it snows - especially now that I am retired and only drive in it by choice, and outside rush hour. I am happy I have a garage, though - the windshield scraping gets old...

  4. That little bird took a wrong turn somewhere. It's sweet that they put a heat lamp out.
When we lived in CA, I thought I missed snow. Didn't take long after moving to IL, to decide I didn't miss it at all. Here in KY, we've been having snow showers the last 3 days...not much accumulation. Temps in low 20's...plenty cold enough.

  5. Amazing! So far we've had zero luck attracting hummingbirds in the warm months. I think they're all hanging out down the street at Frankie's sister's house. Stay warm and watch that ice!

  6. What amazing little birds hummingbirds are! They have such a spectacular array of colors don't they? We are having a bit of a thaw here recently which I welcome. I hear we have only a 46% chance of a white Christmas however knowing how often the weatherman misses it I'm not too worried!

  15. Hi Beth, I clicked on the link. There's some really nice people around, showing that very pretty bird all the love in the world. How thoughtful to have the heat lamp. God really does look after all the birds of the air. Hope you're back indoors after doing your chores and running errands, and your tootsies and hands are now warm. I really don't think I could survive one of your winters.

  16. What a little beauty Beth thank you for the link. So they can survive this bitter cold weather I do hope so. Here in the GB the little Wrens are in danger in this awful cold weather, I keep and eye out for them but haven't seen any of late. Keep warm Hugs Sheilax
