Summer…

is hanging on with a vengeance this year and doesn’t want to let go.   Our predicted high for today is 100F actual degrees.  This is the kind of day where I don’t like to go outside, and I probably won’t.  Tomorrow is more of the same but by Monday the high is to be in the low 70s. The nice things about living in Illinois are the bitter cold snowy winters and the high heat and humidity. If you don’t like the weather one day, stick around because it is sure to change soon.

The Canadian geese which are thick here because of the Illinois River have started making a showing in my back yard.  As the days go on the numbers will increase until there are dozens of them.  They hang around until late October. They are pretty to look at but they are actually rather mean when you try to get close to them.

These pictures were taken yesterday morning.  You can see how brown our grass is here.  The total combined rainfall for July and August is less than 1 & 1/2 inches.  Click on pics to make larger.

September is here.  My favorite month of the year.  I love Illinois for the changing seasons.  I don’t like Illinois for the heat and the snow.  But hey, I have lived here most of my life and I doubt that will change any time soon.

I hope you all have lots of plans for the Labor Day weekend.  It is just another Monday holiday for me which I don’t like as it messes with my mind as Tuesday becomes Monday.

Whatever you do, stay safe and be happy!!

Red heart  Beth

  1. I hear you on the quick changes in weather. I guess that's what we deal with living where the four seasons show themselve off.

    Geese seems to be everywhere.

  4. UGH! 100 is way too hot for any month of the year. Feel sorry for the kids starting school today with such heat and humidity. There is a big plus side to having so little rain. No mosquitoes! We've never had them as bad as they are here this year. ALL DAY LONG! We can't wait for the first killing frost! A Molly blog will happen soon...and she's fine. Thanks for asking about her.

  5. We've got weather extremes that is just like yours minus the humidity which we don't have very often. We went from record breaking warmth to not even making it out of the sixties today. I don't relish the horrible cold to come either but like you this is what we're used to here. We live pretty close to a golf course where the Canadian Geese frequent...they make a pretty big mess..bet the golfers love them for that! Our prairie is brown too though I don't get how since we've had much more rain then normal...still we had fire watch weather earlier this week followed by lots of rain...go figure. Labor Day doesn't mean a whole lot for us either. Bless you my friend, have a great day!

  6. Hi Beth

Has been quite chilly here recently, but then today it has been quite warm again, it is quite a guessing game knowing what to wear.

Have a good weekend. Hugs - Nita

  8. I can't believe how hot it is here today but I do know that by next week it will be over with. If you see those geese take off for other parts then you better make plans for winter. I heard today that it may come early this year.. say it ain't so.. I sure hate to hear that. Have a great time this weekend, do something fun!! : D

  9. The geese are a familiar scene around here as well and they can be nasty. That's quite a back yard you have.
I'm happy to say after the storm the weather has been picture perfect. Cloudless skies and around 75 degrees.
I'm working Monday so there is no holiday for me but I am still working so for that I'm grateful.

  10. This year has had the craziest weather everywhere.

Geese are so messy. I love birds but sure don't want to walk where geese are or have been.

Hope you'll have a beautiful autumn. From Bertie

  11. Howdy Twin...good knowing Molly is alright. Been a long time hearing from or about her.

It's been in the high 90's here every day but Sunday and Monday there may be some rain. We are in the same shape as you in that we are behind in rainfall. Our grasses are still decent colored but the weeds that comprise MY front yard are brown now.

Oh no, the geese again. Poo Poo everywhere and being hissed and rushed at too. What a combination.

  12. Our weather changes constantly too. It was 100 degrees yesterday, but by Monday (when I wanted to take the kids swimming) it's supposed to be in the 70s.

That's kind of cool that you get all the geese... although, I'm not sure I'd like all the poo they create! LOL

Have a great long weekend! :)

  13. Hi Ms Beth! I am right tired of the heat this year as well and definitely looking forward to cooler days this fall.
Geese are such messy critters. Though beautiful in flight or on the ponds they do become a nuisance when they take to our lawns and walkways.
I hope you have a happy labor day as well!

  14. Dear Beth Marie;
Here, we have had lots of rain. Potato harvest seems to be lost this year. The price will rise enough in the stores.
I love autumn, but then I have high air and see the beautiful colors of nature.
    Wish you a nice weekend!
    Hugs
