Grammy Awards…

I watched the Grammy Awards last night for a little while waiting for 8 PM to watch Desperate Housewives.  First they said a prayer for Whitney Houston which I thought was very nice.  Then a song sung by Bruce Springsteen.  The guy is 63 & 1/2 years old and I am wondering why he thinks he can sing.  Don’t yell at me, we are all entitled  to our opinion.  He chanted the same verse over and over again and at one time during the song he did a split holding the guitar between his legs.  All I could think of when he did that was, boy, I bet that hurt.  I did listen to a few more of the performances and my ears actually hurt.  This is my uncensored critique of the Grammy Awards.

It is 36 days now on the Countdown to Spring.  It is cloudy right now at 28 degrees with a couple of inches of snow due this afternoon, changing to freezing drizzle this evening.  I have already changed bedding and got the laundry done.

I just spoke to my WV sis a few minutes ago.  She made mention of the fact that yesterday, 12 February, was Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  We are very proud of him here in the state of Illinois for his many accomplishments.  Yesterday no mention was made on the local news (or on the local news) in the state of WV that it was Lincoln’s birthday, although I am sure he will be mentioned on President’s Day 20 February.  The news centered around the death of Whitney Houston.  She was a very talented lady who died prematurely.  Am I getting my point across?

I think now that I might go out and make a quick run to the grocery store.  I hope you all have a good week.

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. I find most of the grammy's rather jarring, too. Haven't watched for years.

Whitney--what a waste. She threw herself away. So sad.

Have a great day, Beth! :)

  2. Beth he can't sing but I guess that's not his appeal. I was never a fan but he made it big during my generation and still has a huge following. A good voice is not a prerequisite in rock&roll.
You should be proud that your state produced Lincoln. You should always be proud of where you live. Every place has their own unique offerings.
Whitney was a great talent. Once again I was never a fan but I can't dispute her wonderful voice. It's all so tragic and a huge waste. Few could sing like her.
It's cold! Am I glad for indoor plumbing!

    1. I sure would hate to think of having to go to an outdoor potty now. For one thing, Sears doesn't send out big catalogs anymore.

  3. Forced I think is a good word for his kind of singing..it gets the point across but does seem a little forced at your face. Hah! I loved the song Jennifer Hudson sang..she sounded almost like Whitney..So glad she is not going down her path though. Thought the Desperate Housewives show was so tame last night..next week's show looks better. Who would have thought that little ole prim and proper BREE would end up a SLUT? hmm More snow coming here..must get my boots rounded up I hear it might be a deeper one too. Have a great day Sis!! 4. Morning Beth...

I was wondering about the snow, I thought it was coming last night....and was surprised to wake up to nothing. lol

I watched the Westminster Dog Show. I like that kind of singing best. I never watch any of those award shows...not Grammys, not Oscars, not Emmys...they bore me to the point of suicide.

    Stay warm, sweetie!!

  6. Wow, I can't imagine not a mention of Abraham Lincoln! One of the greatest presidents in history if you ask me. I understand some mention of Witney Houston but you're right...something is really off kilter in this country. I wouldn't normally watch things like award ceremonies or whatever though my wife does on occasion so I see bits and pieces here and there...we totally ignored it this year. It's 36 here as well and throughout the week it's iffy. Montana loves to throw a snowball into the machinery when you'd be thinking it would be getting ready for spring so I'm on my guard! Have a wonderful day my friend.

  7. Hi Beth,

It was sad about Whitney, I did like her singing, but hadn't really been up to date with what has been happening to her in last few years.

Snow is thawing and almost gone here, do hope that is it for this year, but have a feeling it might not be.

    Hugs Nita

  8. Bruce Springsteen always kind of yelled his singing...he really is a better song WRITER than singer. I don't think age has anything to do with his inability to sing a pleasant sounding song....it's just his type of singing....kinda like Bob Dylan. He was another great song WRITER who should have just let others perform his songs. Neither of them are that great of singers.

I didn't watch the Grammy awards. I hate rap....hate rap....and they have too much of that junk for my taste. I love music....still love the new stuff....if it's music and doesn't have that auto-tune junk in it. I just can't stand that either....they have over used it. It had a place, but not in every dang song that is on the radio!!!

Whitney had a God-given talent. She had one of the greatest vocal ranges I have ever heard, and without effort. And on top of that, to be so naturally beautiful... It is just a shame that she had to marry Bobby Brown....or maybe it's a bigger shame that when she married him, she didn't have a good influence on him, but instead, he had the bad influence on her. The people I work with that know more about their lives than I do, said he got her on drugs so that he could control her. I don't know if that is true or not, but I do know that drugs were controlling her for the past nearly 20 years. Sad. So much given to one person, so much wasted.

  9. You are so right! Age doesn't enter into it. George Jones, Neil Diamond, Tony Bennett for example all get a vote from me. What I was referring to was his doing a split at that age.

  10. It takes all sorts to make a world. That's always been true and always will be. Be happy in yours!
Personally, I think some people could grow old a little more gracefully.

  11. I never could relate to him either, but then he happened in a different generation than mine - thank heavens. I can't get into most of the music these days - that is if you can even call it music. It's so sad about Whitney Houston - she led a trouble life, and hopefully she's now at peace.

  12. You make me giggle about Bruce ... lol

You know I didn't watch this year, I got home late from church class I'm enrolled in and I was pooped.

    Oh spring to come soon!

Hmmm really makes you wonder about what the Media "thinks" is important :).

  13. I agree with you about the singing. Now we have the autotuned messes. There are very few real talents out there.

  14. You made me smile with what you said about Bruce Springsteen! You never know he might be well aware that he can't sing but if people are willing to pay him loads of money for making the noise he does he's going to keep on doing it because no doubt he is better off financially than either of us - well me anyway. I'm not sure why half of them think they can sing to be honest.

  15. Never saw the reason for his success myself. Too many rockers either just scream or talk their way through a song. Didn't watch the Grammy's myself.

  16. I could write a book here but I won't. T'ain't my bloggie, but I'll say I got your point and agree. How's my Twin today?

  17. I watched the Grammy's too, specifically to see Jennifer Hudson. I didn't know most of the people there, and found the majority of the performances annoying. I was impressed with Adele, though, and have had "Rolling in the Deep" running through my head for the past couple of days. LOL
