A sister…

How do people make it through life without a sister?    I was blessed to have four sisters.  Three of them (my older sisters) died of different forms of cancer.  I have one remaining sister.  She is a bit younger than me and a whole lot wiser.  She is always there for me whenever I need her although a distance of 500 miles separates us.  She will listen to me for however long it takes to calm me down even though her own mind is filled with many worries of her own.  She calls me three times a day just to make sure I am still breathing.  These calls to me happen even if she is away from home or staying with a member of her family in the hospital.

I woke up this morning thinking how nice it is to have a sister/confidante that you can tell all of your problems too without fear of them being repeated.  Just wanted to say “Thanks Rae, for helping me remember parts of my childhood I had forgotten (some of it I would rather be forgotten),  Thanks for helping me remember old friends (and boyfriends) from a time when we were both young and pretty.  Thanks for all of the advice and never criticism even though I deserve to be criticized now and then.  Just THANKS!!”

It is bright and sunny out this morning and the temperature is standing at 28 degrees.  The countdown to spring stands at 21 days.

I have errands to run this morning so I will catch you all when I get back.  Have a peaceful week.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  2. you are blessed to have a sister. I'm an only child, so have had to rely on close friends - which works too, although the bond isn't quite the same.

  3. So glad you have such a great sister, and so sad you already lost 3. That must have been difficult, but I'm sure it brings you and Rae even closer. Be careful out there in this cold weather, it is cold and blustery here today. Lots of birds at my feeders. Terry

  5. I always wondered what it would be like to have a sister. Just two older brothers who were additional daddies. Sure cramped my style. xoxox

  6. I'm an only child and have no idea what it would be to have siblings. It's funny how we each adapt to whatever situation we find ourselves in. Until I got married and had children of my own I couldn't imagine what it would really be like to share my life with others: life is surely richer with someone to do that with!

  7. Hi Beth,

Nice tribute to your sister. I always wanted a sister. I have three brothers, whom I keep in touch with, but not weekly, let alone daily. One is in Canada, so don't have contact very often with him. The other two are in England and we are there for each other.

Have a good week. Hugs Nita.

  11. You're so lucky to have been blessed with sisters. I never had one...just two younger (much younger) brothers. I pray my girls will have a strong bond like you do with your sister.

  12. I don't know how some people do it. With 3 sisters of my own, living right close to me, I have the best situation at least for us. My girls are very close too. Sisters are a special blessing and we have been well blessed.

  13. Very cool, Beth! Spring is here; 64 and sunny today, more of the same on tap for tomorrow. Most likely a blizzard for Easter but I'll worry about that when it comes:-)

  14. I was not blessed with a sister by birth, but I consider my very best friend my "sister", because I know the closeness she and I share HAS to be like what having a sister is like. I have a wonderful brother and a wonderful husband, both of whom I'm very close to, but I know it's just not the same as the "girl connection".

That's why I always wanted four children - and I hoped they'd be two boys and two girls - so everyone would have the wonderful privilege to have a brother AND a sister. My boys definitely miss their sister!

  16. I had a sister but as she was about 19 years older tha me it was like having another Mum, so not much good for confiding about boyfriends and things eh? I am glad that my daughters have a sister, though they're very different both physically and mentally, they are always aware that they are very important to each other and having a blood sister is such a gift, as they've got older they have become closer.

  17. What a blessing to have a sister like that. Mine isn't. We are not close. So different that communication has always been a problem. She can go off like a firecracker at the smallest thing. I think she's mellowed with age some, but by now our not speaking is a habit we can't seem to break even though we try now and again. Sounds like you are treasures to each other. :)
