The Day All Old Folks Go Off Their Diet Day by my WV sis. This morning she and her husband were entering the Jolly Pirates Doughnut Shop in Ashland KY at the same time as several older ladies. (Now bear in mind that my sis is almost as over the hill as I am. Actually she is 22 months younger). My sis is a great people person. She jokingly said to this group of ladies that this was officially the day that all old folks go off their diets. This did not go over well with this group of ladies and they walked away in a huff. LOL I had never heard of a Jolly Pirates Doughnut Shop but I guess they are common in KY, WV and Ohio. Have any of my readers heard of this place?
My sis and brother in law live in the part of WV where you can stand with your feet planted in WV and put your left arm in Ohio and your right arm in Kentucky . The name of the city is derived from these three states. Ken O Va (Kenova) I think that is so cool the way that city was named. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenova,_West_Virginia
It is cold and windy this morning at 24 degrees right now and not to get much warmer today. I am longing for Spring which stands in the countdown to Spring at 23 days. I am waiting impatiently for a day with sunny skies, no wind, and 70 degrees.
Closing this off for now as I am observing “The Day All Old Folks Go Off Their Diet Day.” Come join me. The official age to celebrate this holiday is to be over the age of 55. You are certainly eligible RB.
Enjoy the weekend. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
I've never heard of that doughnut shop but then I'm pretty far west of there. We had a Krispy Kreme that was really nice but it didn't fare well here and closed up shop. People are so health minded that this doesn't surprise me frankly. I guess it doesn't matter because said holiday doesn't apply to me! It's 32 and windy with a high near fifty today and I've got studying to do for tomorrow so I guess I know what I'll be doing for my Saturday. Have a blessed day my friend.
ReplyDeleteLOL guess that means I don't have to eat oatmeal today..hehe..never heard of the shop either..must be a southern type of shop. Hope things warm up so this snow will melt and we can see green again. I don't think nature knows what to do with this year so far. Take care Sis,, XXOO
ReplyDeleteCold and very windy (60MPH gusts) with snow flurries flying today. Bring on the spring!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteWe are apparently being promised temps in the lower eighties this week - wow - confusing or what - Have a good Sunday and be Blessed.
Hugs Nita
Hi Beth, we here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, are in the midst of a snow storm that started last night. The storm is supposed to end tomorrow (I hope). The temp is also going down, hope it doesn't get to cold. I think we are spoiled as the temps here have been very mild this winter.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jolly Pirates, how I long for your chocolate iced cake donuts and your devils food glazed. I love getting donuts at JP's everytime we go home to WV to visit. Glad I'm not the only one that it fascinates as to where Kenova got it's name. We had to learn that in 8th grade in WV history. Now you've done went and made me home sick. However, in honor of Old Folks going off their Diet Day, I will eat an extra helping of Junior Mints.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of it either. I sure am glad that what I ate today was legal because I certainly did go off my diet.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, great post hun... love you... hugs
ReplyDeleteWell, I SURE went off mine..so I must have known.

Doughnuts love em Beth, Dunkin Doughnuts here mostly at Airports. Not sure if it's an American Company though. Good weekend enjoy Hugs Sheila and Wile-e xx
ReplyDeleteI don't wish to hear about the Doughnut shop or the Chocolate eclair shop or even the yummy custard slice shop, as I STARTED my diet to-day, so I might have been one of these old ladies who walked off in a huff,
ReplyDeleteI'm dieting so that when I come to the States I CAN eat Jolly pirate donuts to my heart's content.
Never heard of that donut shop. I am almost 61, so I quality. Does carrot cake count? ;)
