I have a lot of Willie Nelson playing on my site and right now he is singing “Old Friends’” with Roger Miller who wrote the song. It is making me feel really nostalgic while I am sitting here waiting for my son to get here.
My best friend while I was growing up was Betty Jane. Her sister and my oldest brother were married so there was a strong family connection. I know that she is still living somewhere in Western Illinois. My oldest brother has passed away but Betty Jane’s sister (my SIL) is still living. I need to call my SIL and get caught up on all of the news that is happening in that area.
I have shown this picture on one of my old blogs from the spaces days. I am in the back row, second from the right. My friend Betty Jane is in the front row on the very left of the picture. I had a tremendous crush on the boy second from the right in the picture. His name was Giles and his family was as poor as our family. In fact everyone was poor in those days so I didn’t feel pressured or bullied till I got into high school where there were nothing but cliques. Of course I didn’t have time for them anyway as I was busy working for RB’s mother at the telephone company plus working very hard to stay near the top of the class which I did. If I wanted nice clothes I had to work and so I did, if I wanted good grades and I did, I studied. Some mornings sitting on the steps of the high school doing homework after having worked till 9 PM the night before.
I have to close and tend to stuff in the kitchen. You all stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
Love old photos, and memories. We get to know the blogger, better... With both. Or, with either, I guess I should say.
ReplyDeleteBecause sometimes we think of a memory, but don't have a picture, to go with it. :-)

Yes, you should check and see how your old friend is. :):)
ReplyDeleteYou guys all look so sweet and innocent. Those were the days. Nice to have people who knew you when. Sounds like you worked hard...and turned out very well, I might add. ;)
Great fun---looking at those old photos again! Thanks for sharing---it takes me back to simpler days.
ReplyDeleteI know you are excited about your son's visit. I wish you a very fantastic day!! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteTell Jimmie Hi from us. Hope all is well. Enjoy the visit.
ReplyDeleteHey Mike, glad you stopped by. It was a nice visit with the guys.
ReplyDeleteWow, how did you manage to be not only the smartest, but the prettiest in your class? I love your pigtails...looks like you have bows tied on the ends. I used to wear my hair like that in high school. Guess I might have been too old to wear it like that, but hey! I didn't have long hair until then because my mom kept my hair cut short and permed tight. Giles looks like a sweetheart. Have you ever gone to a reunion? Does your school have a website? We have one for my graduating class. It's really nice because we can all keep up with who has grandchildren, who is traveling, who has passed on....if you don't have one, you might see if you can find a few of your classmates and start one for you all. Just a thought....
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo. So happy you found it and that it brings back such great memories.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see a picture from your past. One memory will trigger another.
ReplyDeleteI like Willie Nelson. I even know a filthy joke involving Willie. This woman goes to a tattoo parlor...uh...never mind.
Oh c'mon bro, finish the joke. ;-)
DeleteWhat a great photo
ReplyDeleteI well remember that photo! I have really missed WLS in the face of the self absorption on FB where nobody seems to be able to really communicate and forwarding is the order of the day. It's likely to be stormy for us today after a cool couple of days...I'm ready for some true warmth that isn't something that lasts for about an hour before cooling down again. Have a good day my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh Beth you are so awesome...you remind me of my dear parent's, hard working dear people who the country should be so proud of. I am so thankful you are my friend. Have a great day sweet lady.
ReplyDeleteLove,Debbie:)
Thank you so much for the compliment Debbie. You have made my day!
DeleteIt's funny that no matter what the time period, there are always cliques. It seems that they start at younger and younger ages nowadays too. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOh what a Lovely picture Beth , the boy looks cute I can see why you had a crush on him. You where a good looking girl , and so still are.
ReplyDeleteHugs Sheila and Wile-e xx
Funny how we may forget the exact date and time but we never forget the moments like these. Our memories are a way of holding onto the things you love, the things that have helped mold you into who you are today and memories are the things you never want to lose. Hold tight Beth! Call you SIL.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture. You were a very hard worker for sure! Unfortunately its rare to see that now a days.
ReplyDeleteDid your crush ever like you back?
Blessings, Joanne
