Therapeutic??

Shortly after I lost my husband I got this overwhelming feeling that I needed to go through all of the family albums.  There were a lot of them too; you do take a lot of photos over a 50 year period.   I kept myself busy scanning these photos into my computer. I cried a lot while I was doing this.  It was very therapeutic  and much cheaper than a psychiatrist. There was no grief counseling available in my little city and the psychologist that my insurance allowed  told me that she didn’t handle grief counseling.    So I pulled myself up by my boot straps and said I can do this and I did.  It does get easier as time passes but the memories remain.

At the present time I have well over 2.000  pictures on my computer.  I have no more family albums.  As I scanned I distributed the photos to the family members that wanted them.  Some were discarded in the trash can.
If you are wondering about the topic of this post, this coming Sunday June 3rd marks a very special day in our family.  I have been hunting through pictures trying to find the perfect ones to use in a post that I will be doing on Sunday.  My sister Rae has been helping me by sending me some pictures that she had.

Yesterday my daughter and I ate at Grumpy Pete’s aka 8th Street Station aka Frankie G’s.  We loved the buffet there while it was 8th Street Station.  Yesterday was the first time to try Frankie G’s cuisine.  It was not bad although it was expensive for what you got.  Definitely we will not go there again.
I have cleaning to do so this is it for today.  Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth

  3. I think I have double copies of cd's I've put pictures on, not to mention flash drives. Pictures bring wonderful memories and memories are very therapeutic. Can't wait to see your post.

  4. Remember you can put them in a cloud for free (if they aren't too large of files) so if something happens to your computer, they'll still be there! I keep mine of a clip that is in my folder of important papers that I can grab up in case of an emergency. Love all those old photos and would hate to lose them. Can't wait until Sunday's photo show!

  5. Our good memories sustain us when we have lost someone dear to us. Thankfully, your memories are good.

One of our daughters preaches "back up your files!" I'm sure you have done that.:)

    Have a happy Wednesday, Beth!

  7. I will be glad to help if you need it Nellie. I use a DVD as a CD doesn't hold nearly as many photos. I use the Nero Start Smart that I have loaded on my computer.

  19. I tried to comment before but it wouldn't let me...seems it sorted things out now...I'm sure glad! I have that feeling going through pictures too...it really is a powerful thing. My wife has worked for many years at a scrapbooking store and even helps people make books of their own...it's a very important thing for people and I appreciate the power of that. Bless you my friend.

  20. I've had my new printer for a year--maybe longer--and have never learned how to use the scanner. My old printer I had for eleven years was an "as is" printer and the scanner never worked from day one, so I have never done it. I want to scan all my photos. Maybe this winter. (I said that this last winter--LOL!)

I can see where it would be very therapeutic to go through all the old photos and memories. And what a wonderful thing to be able to send pictures off to people who wanted them, too. It had to be hard, though. *hugs*

I so need to scan and also put pictures on CD's. I can't wait to read the upcoming post and the picture you choose!

Hope you're having a fab day, I'll always have a piece of cake for you :)

  22. A good job and well done Beth, I keep promising myself I too will do that, I got as far as buying new albums and giving them names, Family, Arlene [daughter] Karen [daughter], grandchildren, dogs, etc they all have their own, but I too think I should do your 'Labour of Love' and computerise them. keep strong and you'll beat them blues.
