Friday…

is my garage sale day. I love garage sales.  I am very picky about what I buy.  Today was not a good garage sale day.

I finished off the morning by going to Schnucks.  I have now been to all of the major grocery stores in town this week to get their bargains.  I wanted some tomatoes from Illinois but they were hard as a brickbat.  I really enjoyed the homegrown ones I was given a couple weeks ago.  The peaches looked good though so I got enough to make something with.

Yesterday the high temp was 95 degrees and 100 a little bit to the south of us.  Today is going to be another scorcher but there is the tiny hope for some rain on Sunday.  I really am longing for fall!!

I am really tired this morning after a sleepless night.  I will be by to visit you all after lunch.

Have a great weekend.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  7. We have had rather comfortable temperatures for several days, and I am not looking forward to the warmer days that are forecast for the week-end.

Perhaps you are due a good nap.:)

  8. Buying produce at the grocery store is always a gamble for me. So much of the time, it isn't ripe enough. I hope you can stay cool.

  9. You have had a real scorcher of a summer there. Lately I have not been able to find any quality fruits and my "Go-to" place has had sup par stuff too. UGH! Stay cool hope the rain comes soon.

  10. That is a scorcher - 99+. Too hot for anyone or anything, Do you have a Farmers Market there? That's sometimes a good place to get beautiful fresh fruit. Quite often they get a truck load of peaches, but you have to scout around a bit.

  13. Reading about Schnucks really brought bakc memories of when we shopped there every week when we lived in Southern Illinois by St. Louis. I sure do have good memories of Friday nights at Schnucks. Hope you get some rain. We have had a very rainy week here in Arizona. I'm with you about being picky at garage sales. I still love the treasure hunt of a garage sale, but I usually don't buy much any more. Enjoy your weekend.

    1. My tomatoes in the pots literally burned up in the heat wave although I watered them faithfully. They went the way of the corn fields this summer. Kaput!

  18. Yep, HOT here in southwestern Illinois ... with no relief in sight ... although there's rain in the forecast for tomorrow. Sure hope we get some.

I haven't had any luck with finding vine-ripened tomatoes or tree-ripened peaches ... they're all picking them way too early. While I understand why, they just can't compare to naturally ripened ... and are never worth the $. :-(

  19. I am not much of a garage saler or buyer honestly. We have enough stuff and adding more...well, I just can't see it and don't have the energy to go through all of the ones out there...maybe I need to live closer to you for some inspiration! It's been hot and dry here too except the evenings when it gets down right chilly. Fall means extremes here so I don't long for it...around here the thirty or more degree temperature shifts are breeding grounds for colds...no thanks.

  20. I love going to Car boot sales, what I expect you will call garage sales, A field gets hired and people drive up with their cars laden with booty and for about £5 sell from 7 am till around 1pm I like in spring and you can get plants very cheap, but when it comes to 'stuff' I decline now as I'm trying to off load my collection over the years just like Joe above.
Don't wish too hard for cooler weather. just a little bit.
