Saturday…

and I have had one of those mornings where I should have stood in bed.

*****

“Idioms & Phrases

I should have stood in bed,

I've had such a bad day that I should never have gotten up at all.  For example, And then I got rear-ended at the stop sign Is should have stood in bed . This ungrammatical colloquial phrase properly put as stayed in bed is ascribed to fight manager Joe Jacobs, who in 1935 saw his first baseball game, the opening game of the World Series between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. It was a very cold day, and when asked what he thought of baseball, Jacobs replied, "I should have stood in bed."

Actually this day started out pretty nice, lovely sunshine and cool temperatures.  I went to the church sale and purchased a few things and came back home and that is when the fun started.  I noticed the window on the rear right side was down about an inch.  I started the car and tried to use the power to raise the window.  No luck, the darn thing went halfway down and stuck there.  I called my daughter and son in law and they came over.  My daughter went to the dealer with me and it cost me $567.94 cents to get it fixed.  I just had the rear left window fixed in March of this year and it was $326.  Each window operates on a motor.  I asked for an explanation as to why this was higher than the other window and I was told prices had increased.  Well, needless to say I am torqued off.  My car is a 2002 Buick LeSabre which we bought new.  It has a little over 84,000 miles on it.  I have started looking at new cars.

I have really had far worse things than this happen to me but this was extra irritating for some reason.

And now my rant is over.  I hope you all have a good weekend.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Ouch! What a low blow. That would set anyone off, but especially retired people on fixed income. If you opt for a new car pick one with good gas milage. It sure makes a difference. When Jim and I retired we traded in our two cars on a 2005 Prius. It was low milage and only traded in for a Highlander that had more interior space. We love it.
My friend drives an earlier used Prius and she loves hers too. Good luck, whatever you decide.
Have a better rest of the day. Glad you enjoyed the church sale.

  2. I should add that our Prius has other advantages because it is small and easy to park. ;o)

  3. I hope for you to have a better end of the day then the start. I just cringe when I have anything come up with the car, it always hurts so bad on the pocketbook & bank acct. HUGS

  4. OMGosh that is terrible..what an increase. We have a Century and it's older than that.Oh brother, I fear we will be using a tarp if that happens to us, sheesh. I think something is seriously wrong with that dealer, such an increase seems just not fair.Hope your car hunt goes well and you find something you like. :-) XXOO

  6. We are at that point, too. I think we are going to downsize to one car; just don't need two anymore. With the costs...it is just ridiculous! Don't you be standing on your bed; it isn't safe! Hugs!

  12. This must be a week for messed up windows. My driver's side window rolled down and wouldn't roll back up at all! We took it to our usual repair man and he managed to get the thing back up - but I can no longer roll it down. I'm okay with that, considering the van has almost 200,000 miles on it and is still going. It's pretty funny though, pulling up to a drive thru and forgetting you can't roll your window down to order. :) My window "repair" cost $35.

  13. Oh- We have had to replace those motors, too. They are sooo expensive! Well, at least you didn't say you should have "stood in bed" for the whole day- xo Diana

  14. I mentioned your expenditure to my husband and he just said that you should find a reputable repairman in your area and it definitely would have cost much less. He also said that dealerships get TOP dollar for repairs. He KNOWS!

  16. Oh man...my car is an 2004 model and while it's been good to me so far...I dread the repairs coming.

  17. That's a bit of an increase in just a few months!!! Crazy! We have 3 cars, 2001, 2003 and 2004 with almost 200,000, 130,000 and 112,000. I pray over them daily. :) Enjoy your Sunday!

  19. I have had the motor in my Jeep Liberty driver's side rear window replaced twice. It hurt each time. It also made me wish for the old fashioned arm churned handle to raise and lower the windows. They never had to be replaced. Like my hubby says, the more extras you get on your car, the more the repairs are going to cost.

    Happy car hunting. :)

  20. Oh my!!! Well I'd have a bit to say about that price. Ridiculous. I don't get motorized windows for that reason because they told me it was expensive to fix. You weren't the only one this week that had this problem. I had a friend who had to do the same from work. Bummer. Good luck on the hunt. Chris

  21. Maybe we've had it wrong all these years and the reason the day doesn't get better is because we're actually supposed to stand up in bed! I hate unexpected costs...not a laughing matter...I've really been there as have we all. Take care my friend.

  22. Similar to saying 'I was stood standing' when you're last in the queue.
You were quite right to be torqued off at having to pay that much for a window repair, it's bad enough when it's to do with the engine, Look for a new car before you rack up any more bills, I did back in March.

  25. What would make me so mad is how much higher it was to have it fixed! That's ridiculous!! I hope things went smoother for you after this. (I'm so far behind reading blogs. ;)
