Carp are a big nuisance in the Illinois River. Last summer the Animal Planet filmed a local carp hunter’s TV spot to be shown tomorrow night, September 30 at 8PM CST.

If you are interested in seeing the general area where I live I invite you to tune in to this show. I intend to.

Another gorgeous day, beautiful sunshine and 77 degrees right now. It is actually to get a bit warmer as the next week progresses. I have done laundry and been to the pharmacy and grocery store.
When I got home my neighborhood was in total blackout. A transformer had blown and the power was off for about 2 and 1/2 hours. I have an electric stove and microwave so I was pretty helpless to fix lunch. My kids to the rescue again,
I hope you all have a peaceful weekend. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
Hi there - thanks for the comment - carp are a problem here as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat header picture.

Glad to see you have been out and about. Blackouts aren't any fun and good for you that it was day.
ReplyDeleteWe are really dependent on electricity! The cooktop is gas, but requires electricity for the spark. My husband has used a match a time or two when we've needed it.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a sad development with the carp in the river. I'm not sure we are able to get Animal Planet on our TV, but I will check it out.
It sounds like you are feeling better. That's great!!
xo Nellie
I don't have cable Tv so I can't watch it. :( Glad you got your electricity back. You really realize how much we are dependent on electricity when it goes out! Thank goodness the kids helped out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I hope you are feeling lots better, Beth. :)
ReplyDeleteglad the power came back on again!
ReplyDeleteProbably those darn squirrels, playing where they shouldn't be!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when the power goes out. I can entertain myself BUT climate control is gone and like some, I enjoy my creature comforts. xox
ReplyDeleteOh yeah we got some carp in the Mystic River. You can see 'em motionless in the water. Of course the Mystic River is a puddle compared to the Missouri river.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I get animal planet having never watched the channel but I will check it out. I'd like to see where you live. I've been north, south, east of am course and west, but I've never been to America's heartland.
It's been a while since we had a power outage and I'm not wishing for one either.
I'll try to catch the program. I think carp are a problem here too - in the Fox River. It's terrible being without electricity isn't it. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know about the program.
ReplyDeleteI grew up using an electric range but the last two homes have had gas. At least we can heat up soup if the power is out.
Happy and thankful your children could help you out.
We had beautiful weather today here too. It's a helpless feeling, isn't it, when the power goes out.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out the Animal Planet tomorrow for that show. Glad you power is back on. The worst thing about having the power out is having to reset all the clocks! Enjoy your Sunday tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteCarp....the cockroaches of the waterways. Enjoy that weather:) It's still hot here.
ReplyDeleteAs if the regular carp weren't bad enough, now there are the flying ones! They have made their way up here to the Great Lakes. They still don't know how to stop them.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are up & around again. Please be careful. Feel good, though! Hugs!
No power is one of the frustrations we have to deal with at times, though we prefer not to. Candle light, Kindle (with a inset light) and quiet is one way to look at it. Glad your kids came to the rescue.
ReplyDeleteIt has been some amazing weather lately hasn't it? I guess this Wednesday we have it cool down to a high of only 45...not ready for that. Sounds like the feature on Animal Planet will be interesting...junk fish...ugh. Glad you had some help during the black out. We haven't had that since the ice storm a quite a few years ago...I was never so glad we were near Main Street so we could eat somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth! Oh, yes...those crazy jumping carp! Yikes! They're ind of creepy. I saw them on TV, and also in person. Strange sight!
ReplyDeleteI love this weather, too. And that tree in your photo is GORGEOUS!! Is that in your yard or street? We in the Midwest really do have beautiful fall foliage, don't we? I've always wanted to see New England in the fall, too....maybe someday!
Hi Beth
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy week
Hugs Nita
glad you got out & the kids came in to rescue you I hate the blackouts we have hot weather here still high 90's but cool evenings so it is manageable. sending you HUGS :]
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm convinced that kids come in mighty handy. Sounds as if you might be enjoying an Indian summer this coming week.
ReplyDeleteOh man!! I'm so glad they came over and rescued you!
