And the north wind doth blow…

but we didn’t get snow, just a lot of wind; some winds gusting over 50 miles an hour yesterday.  We dropped from the upper 60s to the mid 20s last night.  And now I am thinking that Old Man Winter is waiting in the wings.  I am not ready for that.

I am up early this morning, doing laundry, etc.  My niece is coming over for lunch.  She likes to watch Y & R with me.  That show is all messed up now.  Several of my favorites have been fired and more to come.

I am reading the new Virgil Flowers novel by John Sandford.  http://www.johnsandford.org/books.html

MAD RIVER

SYNOPSIS · CHAPTER ONE · COMMENTS · COVER GALLERY · REVIEWS

“Bonnie and Clyde, they thought. And what's-his-name, the sidekick. Three teenagers with dead-end lives, and chips on their shoulders, and guns.

The first person they killed was a highway patrolman. The second was a woman during a robbery. Then, hell, why not keep on going? As their crime spree cuts a swath through rural Minnesota, some of it captured on the killers' cell phones and sent to a local television station, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigator Virgil Flowers joins the growing army of cops trying to run them down. But even he doesn't realize what's about to happen next.”

And mentioning for the 100th time, Sandford is my favorite author.  Minnesota readers, is there really a Mankato Minnesota?

Have a wonderful week.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  2. Beth, My sister and I watch Y&R. It has gone to the dogs. It is raining here this morning, a cold rain. I am not ready for winter...I don't even like it any more , other than the fact that the cold kills off pests and germs. xo, Susie

  3. Sounds like a nice day Beth! At one point I watched Y&R everyday, but I wouldn't want to get back into it because I feel it's only a matter of time before this one goes away as well.

  5. That really sounds interesting, and I'm not one for crime stories. May have to check it out. Darla and I watch Days of Our Lives. It has taken on the Gay controversy. Wonder how that will affect the viewers. They have been know in the past to take on controversial issues.

  8. No snow here but flurries northward..I am not ready either..trying to be but it sure is depressing to see it come this year. Guess I got spoiled by how nice it was last fall. WHY oh WHY do they take a good show that is doing well and mess it up by FIRING the popular actors? Makes no sense to me either. Hope your day goes well. XOXO

  13. I'm with you girlfriend. No way am I ready for the cold and snow. Getting up at 3:30 every day isn't fun and if it snows and the plows haven't been out it isn't going to be fun driving. That book does sound good. I've never read any of his books but I might give him a try. I love to read crime stories and mostly read just true crime but every once in awhile I like to read a novel. John Grisham is another fav of mine but I am going to look for this book. Have a good evening Beth and take care.

  15. I just started today The Devil's Code, the third book (and next to the last) in the Jason Kidd series. I do hope Sanford gives us some more Kidd in the future. I like him almost as much as Lucas Davenport! I think I've only read the first Virgil Flowers book but I will get there soon. I've managed to read over half of the Davenport books just this year. In fact, just finished Hidden Prey today.

  16. Yes, there's a real Mankato, Minnesota. :)
I used to watch All My Children and they did all kinds of stupid things to it the last few years, too. Got rid of main characters, ridiculous storylines, and even moved the whole show to LA from NY. They were going to move it online, but that fell through, too. I had watched it for over 40 years. Sad, but true. ;)
Been really cold up here! Bundle up! :)

  19. Isn't Mankato where Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie) lived when they were in Minnesota?? I remember visiting there when our daughter was about 9 and reading the series and watching the TV show.
