Taste of Fame…

Have you ever tried a pork tenderloin sandwich??  It is my favorite sandwich and I thought it was available everywhere.  Maybe if you have a Culvers in your area you can get it.  According to an article in todays Peoria Journal Star these sandwiches are not available everywhere.

Luciano: Schooners pork tenderloin gets its moment in the spotlight

“Finally, it’s time for the pork tenderloin to go national.
The sandwich — oversized and deep-fried, slid under a way-too-tiny bun — is a staple in central Illinois, making Peoria undoubtedly the pork tenderloin capital of the world. Elsewhere, though, it’s pretty much unknown — an injustice that Jeff Mauro wants to correct.
“That’s my hope,” said the star of “Sandwich King” on the Food Network. “I want everybody else to know about this.”  Quote from the Peoria Journal Star 2 March 2013.

Mauro was in Peoria yesterday afternoon at Schooner’s with his film crew to film a portion of his TV show which airs on the Food Network.  I never watch this show but I will try to catch this episode.  The Sandwich King airs on Sunday at 10:30 AM CST on the Food Network.
Now, in case you didn’t know, a huge pork tenderloin is breaded and deep fried and served on a 4 inch bun.  I am very particular what I want on my tenderloin sandwich.  Catsup, mustard and pickles on one side of the bun and mayo and tomato slice on the other side.  Pure nirvana.

“Nirvana is a place of perfect peace and happiness, like heaven. In Hinduism and Buddhism, nirvana is the highest state that someone can attain, a state of enlightenment, meaning a person's individual desires and suffering go away.”

And now I want a tenderloin sandwich.

Stay safe and be happy!!

  4. Wow, I would love to one of those sandwiches. When we go on vacation, we like to eat at restaurants that have been on the food network! There are some good ones! I didn't comment yesterday, but I so agree with your comments about our elected officials. Seems like with all the infighting, whining, and tantrum throwing there has been, they have all forgotten (or maybe they just never knew) that their first loyalty is this wonderful country and its citizens, NOT to a political party or particular ideology. I'm also with you on Jody Arias. I can't watch but a minute or two of the trial, then it literally makes me ill. I hope that no little kids are home sick during the day watching this trial! It is like an x-rated movie! I hope she gets exactly what she deserves!

  5. Hi Beth,

I like a cold roasted pork sandwich, just in buttered bread, without any of the mustard, etc. Or a hot roasted pork sandwich with apple sauce and sage and onion. Oh now I am hungry!!

Pleased you enjoyed your sandwich and hope you are having a good weekend.

  8. I learned of these sandwiches from my ex MIL. She is from Iowa. They are so delicious!!! We make them now from thin sliced pork chops. I love them crispy on a small bun with ketchup.
When we were looking up Mount Airy, where the Andy Griffith show was filmed, we found that they are known fro their pork chop sandwiches. So, when we visit there I will be standing in that line for one of those sandwiches. :)
    Happy Saturday to you!

  10. I've never had pork tenderloin. I would probably enjoy a couple of bites and then regret it because my tummy is so sensitive. It gripes and complains over all sorts of things I want so badly to enjoy.

    Love,
    Janie
