at 67 days! It is bright sunshine here today and the temp is 28 degrees. It is predicted to warm to the upper 40s today which is a tropical heat wave. I was just reading one of my blogging friends posts. She lives in Tasmania and she said her temp there today is to reach 98 degrees. That is a bit hot for me although in the summer in central Illinois we usually have quite a few days when the temp is that warm.
I have been forgetting to mention that my doctor visits on Friday were fine. I did have to have some lab work done while I was at my primary care doctor’s office. I met the nicest ‘young’ man who was 86 years old and his wife who was waiting there for lab. He was a World War II Veteran and he was telling me all about how his ship carried the soldiers to the islands where they were needed. He was telling about Pearl Harbor Day. It was awesome just listening to him. Such a wonderful guy and such a lovely wife. I wanted to hug them both but I didn’t and now I wish I had. I do so appreciate our veterans. The number of our older vets is getting to be so small and they have such stories to tell. When I see a veteran I stop and thank them for their service for our country. May God Bless them all!!
I am making potato soup today. I haven’t made that for a long time and it sounds pretty good.
I hope you all have a blessed day. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
How touching, glad yor visits went well. Potato soup sound good.
ReplyDeleteGood to catch up with you Beth, this New Year, (got your Christmas card too, many thanks ) The weather seems to be all out of sync, makes you wonder what else Mother Nature has in store after so much upheaval. Warmest of hugs to you. xPenx
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you were able to hear a veteran's story and good for him to share it. Our veterans have had such experiences that we all should be interested it listening to their stories when they are willing to tell us. It was an opportunity for you that I've never had. I'm catching up on all of my friend and family directories today. It's bleak outdoors.
ReplyDeleteGlad your appts. went well, Beth. I often meet the nicest/most interesting people while waiting in drs. offices. God bless our Veterans.
ReplyDeleteI love potato soup but haven't had it in years. Enjoy your day and the warm up!
I am glad your doctor visit went well and glad that you brightened the day of the veteran and his wife. I admire our veterans, too. Potato soup sounds awfully good to me!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that the visits went well. Great way to start the new year out right. Our veterans really did have it hard. I admire their courage and service. Hope the day and the soup is great. Prayers always for you dear Sis. XoXo
ReplyDeleteOh Twin, like you, that is such a treat! I got to speak to several at my last DAR meeting when we honored a local TV personality who does a "Service and Sacrifice" on them each Thursday evening on the evening news. I got to meet the TV personality, an anchorman as well of course.
ReplyDeleteO so glad to hear a good doctor report for you.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a veteran....
xoxo
i hope he felt your hug, emotionally, then. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs are a good idea.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I hope that your results are fine.
ReplyDeleteWe live not too far from West Point Military Academy. See GIs all the time. We also see veterans by the doors of a lot of supermarkets, selling candy. We always get candy from them. We owe them a lot.
How interesting his stories must have been. Perhaps you'll bump into them again! Praise God for good reports!
ReplyDeleteOh yummmm, Potato Soup. That does sound good. Our day was much likes ours - only our temp was only about 36. At least it melted some of the ice we had received two days ago. .
ReplyDeletei'm glad your appointment went well, it was nice to visit with the couple wasn't it we learn so much from others just by being friendly, that soup sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI hope everything works out well, dear Beth...potato soup? Sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that your doctor appts went well!! I love potato soup, I have a great recipe that uses one can of cream of mushroom and one can of cream of celery soup, milk, bacon and of course potatoes!! It's super easy and really yummy!! It was so good to see the sun today!!
ReplyDeleteGlad the check-ups went well. Yes, Spring is on the way! I'm with you - we owe such a debt to all of our Veterans. Potato soup sounds great - I may put that on our menu for next week. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy speaking to our elders, such great stories they have to tell! Glad to hear you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteYou must share some of your recipes. I want to make a potato/leek soup this week. Have you done that?
XO,
Jane
Glad all went well at the doctors. It so interesting talking to older people. We can learn so much! We owe so much to all the veterans.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made potato soup for a while either. Sounds good and I must make some again soon.
Well the temperature is now supposed to be 100.8 F Wednesday, that day I am coming home from my dads about 100km away by the sea, it won't be quite as hot there, so at least I will have A/C on in my car, and when I get back home.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice to hear the man story of his adventures in the War. Interesting as to what happened to them, we learn so much from the elderly at times.
Hope your soup turn out alright, and you have made me hungry - and for afternoon tea I just had a big piece of Meringue with a small amount of cream and ice cream topped with strawberries - yum! :)
You're so sweet! I love meeting nice people.:)
ReplyDeleteI do love baked potato soup! You should share your recipe. :) yum!
I feel that way about our vets, too. Glad your appts went well. This thaw is messy, but I am glad for it! I have errands. Hug.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear things are going well with you. That potato soup sounds delish! Spring will be here before you know it, but enjoy the temporary thaw while it lasts!
ReplyDeleteI am very glad that your doctor's visit went well. And isn't is amazing to hear stories like the one that man told? I love hearing about the experiences of Veterans.
ReplyDeleteIt is suppose to be 28 degrees here too, so I have the air con going so the house doesn't get too hot. It is nice to listen to the older generation talk at times they often have such great tales to tell
ReplyDeleteGood news from the doc. This is certainly one whacky winter.
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason they call those people of the WWII generation," The Greatest Generation". We all owe them a great debt.
That must have been very interesting talking to that gent about his WW2 adventures, there will soon be no more of that ilk left soon.
ReplyDeleteGood news from the doc, :-) can't be bad. Take care X
