I have figured out…

why the postal service is so broke!!  But before I tell you why I will just let you all know that there are only 52 more days till Spring.  It is bitter cold below zero and very windy.  Right now my garbage can is lying on top of my back porch where the wind blew it last night.

And now back to the miserable state that our postal service is in.  My sis in West Virginia and I send each other a package every few weeks.  I send her my new books that I have purchased and she sends me things that she knows will make me happy.  She fixed a large box of gifts for me for Christmas.  She mailed it Priority Mail on the 4th of December and I was to receive it on the 3rd day after mailing.  I received it almost 2 weeks later.  One of the items that was packaged in  heavy foam in a box and securely placed in the package to be mailed was broken to bits.  It had been a beautiful manger scene with a music box.  Several of the gifts had torn wrapping paper.  She is still waiting for a claim to be answered that she filed with the postal service.

But wait!! that is not all.  I had ordered some of the cook booklets like the one I had in my giveaway right before Christmas.  She mailed the package to me on Tuesday, January 21st and I was to receive it no later than January 24.  Needless to say I don’t have it yet.  The package started out at the post office in Ceredo WV on the 21st.  It arrived in Des Moines IA yesterday January 24th.  Des Moines is 271 miles from me.  Today it was shown to have arrived at Hazelwood MO which is 169 miles from me.  It makes no sense at all to me the way this package has been routed.  Will I ever get the package??  I hope so as I have promised a couple of those cook books to friends.  If they are reading this, I am trying.

Oh, I could go on and on about letters sent to me and received weeks later and how if I mail a letter or card to someone here in town the letter is sent to Champaign IL for sorting and processing.  Makes no sense to me that local mail has to travel an almost 200 mile round trip before it gets to its destination.

If I sound aggravated, well I am!!  I will not be sending anything priority mail from now on.  It doesn’t get to its destination any sooner than regular mail.  Do any of you have any postal horror stories??

That is my rant for today and it isn’t even Wednesday.

Do stay safe and be happy!!  Me, I’m gonna have a good day today!!

Beth

  1. LOL, Beth. Well, you have your rant for the week out of the way early. I am so sorry that you have had such horror stories with your mail. I feel bad that your beautiful manger scene got broken in the delivery process. I really can't complain. We have had very good luck with the mail-although it might take a day or two longer than we had planned.
I am praying that Spring comes soon, Beth. We have a high here today of MINUS SIX. Stay warm! xo Diana

  2. I surely sympathize with you. I received a package that was in a manila envelope that was padded. Attached was a letter apologizing for it's delay. It was over A YEAR late. Never thought I would see it. Sent from Grand Rapids Mi. not even two hours away. Insane yes and now we pay more postage than ever. Hope the winds cease and the cold too or us all.
    Prayers always for you. XoXo.

  3. Enjoyed your rant but am not happy you had things lost and broken! When my hubby came home from Afghanistan 3 years ago he mailed a few packages home of things he purchased and books; things he didn't have room for in his duffle bags. All the boxes were opened and things removed. The most valuable to him was a autographed book signed by his favorite author who just happened to be in Afghanistan with the European force. Phil was so excited to meet him and have him sign one of the books he was reading. Also stolen were a bunch of wraps that Phil purchased to give out as gifts to our friends and family. Such a shame that any of this would happen.

  4. Oops! Sounds as though you've had a tough time with the mail service. We haven't had that experience, though it did take two weeks for the local post office to fill my order for stamps to be delivered to our mailbox. I filed a complaint. I can't complain too much, though, as my husband is a retired rural mail carrier. Have a great Monday! xo Nellie

  5. So heartbreaking about the manger scene/music box. We have had several things broken over the years and some things that never arrived.
So sorry about all this aggravation.
We are at 50 this a.m. ice/snow are expected south of us today.

  6. I ordered some things for Christmas gifts from a friend/blogger who has an etsy store. When the package arrived it was empty. You could clearly see where it was cut open and then sloppily taped back up. Everything was missing, except for the invoice. I was furious and marched it back to the local post office. I was told there wasn't anything they could do as I couldn't prove where it happened (US postal, Canadian Postal or customs).

  7. Well I've never used priority mail, but everything I've ever sent (packaged with reused tissue or paper towels or paper plates and brown paper bags as cover) has arrived in one piece and I've sent some fragile stuff. So sorry for your unfortunate deliveries. I really wonder why this happened to you. There must be a serious glitch in your area! Snowing again here now but a bit warmer.

  8. i have been lucky, thus far, that all of my giveaway drawings have been received in one piece - even internationally.

  9. I have had a few postal horror stories. Mostly involving Christmas packages that mysteriously didn't make it to their destination...

  10. Oh Beth you should try mailing across the border it seems better than our local mailing too but it is expensive from here (Canada) to your (USA) station. Priority is not so much a priority here either:) Good luck and I hope it all gets where it is going eventually:) Hug B

  11. How frustrating! We had a similar experience with Fed Ex over the holidays....I really think much of the problems have to do with the lack of work ethics people have today....not like it used to be!

  15. The only problem I've had with the postal service was back when I was waiting to receive my divorce papers so I could sign them. I was in a state of high anxiety, and they didn't show up. I called the 800 # with the tracking number, but they had no idea where the envelope was. It never came in the mail, so my lawyer scanned the papers and emailed them to me.

    Love,
    Janie

  17. How very frustrating for you. Now they are raising the postage too to go along with the wonderful service we get. Sometimes I think Carrier Pigeon would be better, more reliable, and faster - and they work cheap!
I posted a new blog today, but the dumb thing hasn't appeared in the time line yet. I'll send Google's service along with the Postal Service!!

  18. I agree that the priority mail prices are a rip-off. It gets there when it gets there, doesn't it!! So cold and windy here, too. If we get some warm breezes, I'll send them your way! Keep smilin'

  19. Wow you sure do have post office problems.
I must admit I haven't had any problems.
I do think prices are high though.

  21. There is no doubt that Canada Post and the U.S. Post are in trouble, and you have shown some of the reasons for it.

  22. Yes, I do but I wrote it on my FB site a couple of weeks ago. I have to go to the post master and then on to the government if it doesn't get straightened out. We had such a good postman for several years. Now we have as bad a one as could possibly happen and threats from him. Bertie

  23. Goodness, I hope you had a good day after getting that postal business off your chest.
A friend of mine in Canada posted me a Christmas Cake (small one) in early December last year as she always does but I didn't receive it until after Christmas, the first time ever it was late, but of course I am grateful for the lovely cake.

We in some areas of Australia have mail for some reason delayed. There is a sorting place not far from where I live. Sometimes mail goes the weirdest places in our country when there only a need to go a short distance.
    The postman comes everyday still.

  24. I've been very lucky with mail delivery since I moved to Fargo in 2005. I had a mailman when I lived across the river in Moorhead (1999-2005) who claimed his hands were too big for the apartment mailbox. It was one of the older mailbox systems that slanted open at the top so he had to put the mail down into the boxes. He SMASHED things in. I had ripped, torn, accordion mail for over five years. But I have been pretty lucky with deliveries being fairly timely and not damaged too often. I have heard a lot of stories, though. USPS, FedEx, and UPS!
