Thank you…

all for your prayers for my niece Dee!  I spoke with my sis early this morning.  She was on her way to the hospital.  I don’t have an update yet.

I know that I am not alone in this but it is so sad living so far away from my sister and her family.  500 miles and I think of that old Bobby Bare song ‘500 Miles Away From Home.’  I haven’t seen my sister or any of her family since September 2010.  I have had one thing after another health wise for me and I have been in the hospital several times.  My sis has had 3 major surgeries and the time hasn’t been right for us to get together.  I have been hoping that would change this coming spring.  My brother lives close to St Louis and my son almost 200 miles away.  Thankfully my daughter and son in law are close by.  I would love for us all to get together for a family reunion.  That is #1 on my ‘bucket list.’
I missed a day on the countdown till Spring.  It stands now at 40 days.  The temp has risen to 14 degrees right now and we are to get an inch or two of snow today.  Back down to below zero temps Sunday and Monday night.  It will be below zero on Tuesday morning when I have my appt to get my hair cut.  I hope that my car will start and the streets are clear enough for me to get there.

Needless to say I am stressed today.  When I am stressed I bake.  When I bake I eat.  I am going to bake a pineapple upside down cake  which just happens to be my favorite cake. Not using a special recipe, just a yellow cake mix and the juice from the pineapple slices as the liquid.

I tried Nellie’s http://berriesandmore.blogspot.com/ potato soup recipe yesterday and I have some left over.  It is very good,  thanks Nellie.  I also bought 3 chicken tenders yesterday so I have a couple of them left.

I had my report from the lab on Monday and all was well there.  Thank you God!

Have a peaceful weekend.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  2. I've never known what it's like to have a brother or sister. I can however imagine how hard it is to not be able to visit when you do. We'll see our cold break on Monday...it's snowing now and 5 degrees. Your food sounds really great. Peace to you my friend.

  6. I am so sorry that you have been ill and so very far away from those you love who are ill too. I know how hard it is for me to be away from my children. It's just so hard, so hard. When my parents were so sick I was torn in even going to Nashville and not being here with them every second and they were torn over not being able to be close to their grandparents who helped us raise them. So, prayers for you, dear friend.

  7. Planning a family reunion will keep you focused. How fun that will be. I think that my extended family met for the last time at my mother's memorial service. I don't expect to meet everyone again in one place in this lifetime. But planning it and getting it together are within the realm of possibility. I know some families split the driving distance and rent a large camp on a river or lake where they can all be together.

Let us know how your niece is doing once you have a report.

  15. Dear Beth, I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this about your Niece. I'm including her in my prayers. I hope by now you have received some good news. It's tough living so far away from family isn't it. I don't have much family left anymore (no siblings, and Mr. D's siblings all live a distance away too)., I so hope you can have a reunion one of these days soon. By the way, the snow missed us ( YAY ) sorry tho for all the people that live south that were hit. Such a crazy winter.

  20. Keeping you in my prayers. I know what you mean about being alone. Bill and I only have each other and friends. So when he is on the road, it is hard. Holidays are rough. ~xo~

  23. I know. The only family I am near is my son and DIL, but even when he has surgery he has to go to Minneapolis and I can't really go with anymore. 250 miles away if the closest I am to any of the rest of my friends and family and my folks live in Florida. You just send prayers.
Glad your tests turned out good!! :)

  24. I get why you would be stressed, I don't think I would cope very well if my family was so far away from me, we all live within a 20 minute drive of each other
