only 12 more days till Spring. And we are to have a heat wave today. It is 34 degrees right now to climb up to 46 degrees by afternoon. I can live with that.
Yesterday was grocery shopping day. My daughter went with me and we went to Kroger and Schnucks to shop the bargains. I purchased strawberries and blueberries. It is too early for the strawberries and they are tasteless. I love the local strawberries in June. I will freeze the blueberries for blueberry muffins a bit later. No good buys in the store this week. I did find a bag of bananas for 99 cents. All in good shape, just broken apart from the bunch but not overly ripe. I will make banana bread tomorrow from my own recipe not Chef John’s. My kids informed me that they like banana bread without chocolate chips in it.
I have doctor appointments today, just a checkup to see how I am doing since my treatment. I like both of these doctors, both very nice and caring.
I have started spring cleaning in the kitchen. The shelves are all cleaned out. I probably should have waited on this until the cracks on the wall (caused by the tornado) are fixed. I did run out of shelf liners but it is all cleaned and a bunch of junk put in the garbage. How do we accumulate so much stuff. I have only been here 4 years and I couldn’t believe the stuff I was saving.
I am still working on cleaning out my CD collection. I have donated to Goodwill and sent to some of my blogging friends and to my WV sis and her family and I still have several hundred. Some I guess I can’t bear to part with.
Sharing another picture from home.
I don’t know what the name of this vine is. The hummingbirds loved the flowers on this. Jim and I would sit on the back porch and watch them. Beautiful!
I need to close now. I will be around to visit in a little while.
Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
Hi Beth, Yeah for the warmer temps! Best wishes at the dr. this a.m.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely vine and how special to be able to watch the hummers visit it. We once had tuber roses planted by the porch at one of our homes and the hummers loved them. If we sat very still, we could enjoy watching them feed.
I hope your doctors appointment goes well. Now you have me craving blueberry muffins!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful bush Beth. HUG B
ReplyDeletei passed up the strawberries yesterday, too. but i banked up on blackberries. :)
ReplyDeleteYay for warmer weather! I hope things go well at your Dr.s appointment. I don't like chocolate chips in my banana bread either, but I do love blueberries in it. That's a lovely vine and how fun it must have been to see the hummers.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
oohhhh beth, break out that sun tan lotion ;)
ReplyDeletei'm not certain but it may be a trumpet vine!!
Love the Hummer vine . . . Will you have this vine again this year in your yard?
ReplyDeleteYou sound motivated...spring's approach is good for that if you ask me. We have freezing fog and flood advisories now...hopefully nothing too bad will develop from all of this snow.
ReplyDeleteBeth,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are going to have good weather today. It is nice here also. I love the vine from your other backyard. I have heard that called cardinal vine. ...but not sure that's a true name. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. xoxo,Susie
That vine is beautiful and how special it must have been to watch the hummingbirds there.
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well at the doctors.
Sounds like a nice warm day by you. One here as well. : )
Glad you like the docs and they are nice :).
ReplyDeleteI bet it would be beautiful to see with all the humming birds!
I hope that your doctor's appointments go smoothly. Your Banana bread recipe is one of the best. I know it because people today don't make good baking treats like yours.
ReplyDeleteLove that vine.
Wishing you the best of Fridays, Beth. Hopefully your time with the doctors will result in good reports! xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your dr appts. It is always good to get an "all clear" report and I am sure you are anxious as each appt draws near.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until I have my ovens in again so I can start baking- xo Diana
Do you get different colors of humming birds.
ReplyDeleteDo you take pictures of them?
We have only green ones.A some red.
That is a beautiful Vine.
Life is better when we are a bit warmer isn't it Beth? You stay busy with necessary tasks which I should become better at. Hope your weekend is filled with sunshine!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, that picture of the vine is gorgeous. I enlarged it to see if I could tell what it is, but sadly I don't know either. It's gorgeous. Hope your doctor's appointment went well. i posted a new post today. Sorry I've been missing again, but now I should be back on track for a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteHope you got a good report from the Dr. today.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you are mowing down the days to spring. We are still have warm days so friends are coming for a Barbecue this evening.
Can't make out what shape the flowers are on the vine, but it sure does look lovely. Nice memories, Beth.
hi hi , its me laurie from I lov a cloudy day, I didn't think I would be able to blog again when my eyes took the turn for the worse but a special program for the visually impaired has enabled me to come back to start over, I am trying to find all my friends to follow again, your vine is lovely, I love to see green , we are still under soooo much snow,
ReplyDeleteIf your temperature got into the forties, then it's about the same as ours. Of course, that's chilly for us. I have to remember DST this weekend. Banana bread with chocolate chips sounds pretty good right now. Also, I can imagine a warm slice of banana bread with a bit of Nutella spread on it.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
That vine is a beauty and I had to take a closer look. Hope that someone knows what it is. I'm with your kids...banana bread is great without choc chips. Are you taking those docs banana bread? Gosh, I can't believe that we are so close to spring...you've done a great job with the countdown.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you were able to get out and about!!! I know that being snowbound was driving you nuts!!! Love your photos of home.....my mom is fixing to be moving from home....to another house....to be in a "safer" neighborhood....and am wondering if she is doing the right thing. After all, she will be 80 this year and has lived at her home now for 51 years. I am scared for her....that she will have regrets.
ReplyDeleteI think Spring and Winter are starting to compete. Trucking with Bill showed me several signs of Spring. I know it will be here soon.
ReplyDeleteWell we are into autumn here and it is still bloody hot, today it's around 29°C sometimes I wonder why they have fruits out before their time because as you said often they are tasteless.
ReplyDeleteSpring cleaning hadn't crossed my mind yet. Not until I can open windows--LOL! But I think we are supposed to climb into the low 40s here pretty soon and stay above zero for a while--hurray!! :)
ReplyDeleteSince I live alone I have stopped buying bananas in a bunch as they all ripen at the same time. I buy the loose ones, picking them in order of ripeness. A previous produce manager called me a "banana planna". I thought I'd throw a bit of Bostonese in.
ReplyDeleteSpring cleaning, ugh, why did you remind me.
Hi Beth what a pretty Vine and Hummingbird's to how lovely. When the sunshine's it reminds of Spring clean time. Blueberries are a favourite of mine, I love them on my porridge.
