Workmen arrived early yesterday morning to start repairing the roof on the house directly across the street from me that was damaged in the tornado. They worked until 5PM and got all of the shingles and tarpaper off the roof. They covered it with tarp to protect it from the snow that was predicted last night. (We got just a trace)
Here is a picture of the house after a tree had been removed from the roof a few days after the tornado. Notice the trees in the back that had the tops sheared off them. Also take note of the orange X that was painted on her garage door. She has been trying unsuccessfully to get that removed.
The workmen are just starting on the roof yesterday morning. To the left of the picture you can see another tree that had the top sheared off. There is a lot of rebuilding going on around me right now. I still have the cracks in my wall under the kitchen window. I suppose I will have to bug the office like I did the window to get that taken care of. Their stock answer is that they are waiting for insurance approval. HA!
I have some errands to run. I will stop by to visit you all later.
Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
Any progress is better than none, so at least things are improving. I imagine your little block will come back to a better place really soon. Hope that crack gets fixed. Take care of yourself.. Prayers for you always, XoXo
ReplyDeleteWe had snow overnight, and it feels like Winter. Mid-20s today! But 61* is possible for Sunday! Yay!
ReplyDeleteBeth, I know you must be as happy as your neighbors to see their roof being repaired. The town north of us, Kokomo, is going through much of the same . I heard where the powers that be told the people to start getting their piles of debris hauled away . It's snowing around here today, what do they expect, it must be so frustrating. Hope you are doing well. Enjoy this week. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteMorning, doll--we got just a dusting of snow, but that'
ReplyDeletes plenty. Still chilly, but hopefully spring is coming to stay.
I hate all the racket from the repairmen and their tools...even when I know it needs to be done or even when I want it done. I'm just getting to be an old fuddy-duddy. lol
I hope you will be able to get some action for your wall crack and soon. Spring will certainly be fix-it time throughout the damaged area including everyone.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a long time to get everything repaired doesn't it? When a tornado struck our town some years ago roof repairs dragged on forever in our neighborhood...I expect it was about insurance too.
ReplyDeletei am glad your neighborhood is getting some repairs!
ReplyDeletethat is such a tragedy, scary what weather can do, have a good day Beth!
ReplyDeleteit looks like the jersey shore. 17 months after super storm sandy, those orange "x"'s are still everywhere!! my niece just moved into her new home 2 weeks ago, FINALLY!!
ReplyDeletei am happy for you that the work is underway....it does take a long time!!
Don't sign that lease until...
ReplyDeleteYou mean that orange does not wash or scrape off? Good heavens!
It is orange spray paint.
DeleteIt's a start. Take care. Hug B
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you will be living in a construction zone for awhile, Beth. Hopefully the noise will not be too bad. xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteI bet they will be glad to finally get their roof fixed.
ReplyDeleteShe might have to paint the whole door over. Either white or orange. : )
I am glad they are finally getting around to getting everything fixed for your neighborhood. That is too bad about the Orange X on the door. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSeems like we hurry up and wait a lot these days.
ReplyDeleteWe had strong wind and snow flurries today in GA.
HOpe you rest well.
So much red tape before they can do anything and meanwhile weather is making the damage worse. I hope the repairs will be speedy now.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure everyone will be happy when everything looks normal again and they aren't reminded of it every time they look out of their window. Bertie
ReplyDeleteMy the people must be so thrilled to get their house repaired, hope all goes well.
ReplyDeleteHope you have an awesome day!!!
ReplyDeleteWell that's good news Beth the work has finally started. Your roof next good luck with the insurance they do tend to drag their feet.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week.
Hugs Sheila x
Looks like you are experiencing gray, brown, dismal days . . . but a good view to watch the tornado repair!
ReplyDeleteTakes such a long time, but better to have a reputable contractor. That's how these scam artists make money after disasters--coming in and promising fast work...with a downpayment...and they are gone with your money. Insurance companies are hard-pressed to part with their money, for sure. Glad they are finally getting some work done around there and I hope your neighbor can get them to repaint her garage door for her!
ReplyDeleteOh the work is taking so LONG! Granted that your weather has been pi$$y! That doesn't help.
ReplyDeleteTornado's have happened in New England but none that I can remember. I've certainly lived through hurricanes. In fact when I was very small a hurricane tipped a cherry tree onto our back porch, but a tornado is a concentrated nightmare.
ReplyDeleteGood to see some progress better then none
