Gorgeous Spring Day….

in Central Illinois.  The sun is shining and the birds are singing.  It is in the 30s now but to reach the upper 60s today and mid 70s tomorrow.  If it actually hits 70 tomorrow it will be the first day to reach 70 degrees since November 17th of last year, the day of the tornado.

I was out with my daughter yesterday.  We went to Kohl’s and then to Costco.  I purchased a beautiful little cross to wear on my silver chain.  I always shop the bargains at Costco.  I have learned a lesson though, to be wary of buying a gigantic package of some things.  For example, I bought this gigantic bag of chocolate chips and I ended up having to put a lot of chocolate chips in the freezer.

Today I am doing laundry and going to the store after I get finished.  I also need to do some cleaning too.

I cooked baby lima beans and ham in the slow cooker yesterday while I was out running around.  The first time that I have cooked beans in the crock pot.  They were really good but I don’t think I will do it again because it takes too long.  Earlier in the week I fixed a roast in the crock pot using Campbell’s slow cooker sauce.

CampbellSlowCooker

This is the sauce I used and it was delicious!  I fixed mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon and onion with it.  My roast was fork tender and there was a nice bowlful of gravy.  More leftovers for the freezer.  I could eat leftovers from my freezer for a week and not have to cook anything.  I can hardly bear to eat a TV dinner anymore.  I think Marie Callender and Mr. Stauffer are mad at me.

Gotta run now to check my laundry.  I will be by to visit later this morning/

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  3. Your day sounds a lot like mine...I spent most of yesterday with daughter, shopping for things for Mr. Sweet's surprise birthday party on Sunday. We had a good lunch, went to Sam's and had a great day together. Mr. Sweet baked ribs while I was gone...o, and I caught up with laundry last night....

Happy Spring! Just stopped in to say hello and to wish you a fabulous weekend.

I don't do much packaged food, though that does sound good.

  5. Beth, Our day started gloomy but is shaping up nicely. Good . I am not a big fan of the crock pot any more. I'll do my dutch oven on the stovetop and it cooks very fast. My problem is getting something in the crock pot in time to eat it before it's bed time.LOL. I did a lot of crock-pot meals for the girls when I worked.....it would be done in time for their supper, after school. My girls had a lot of responsibility when I worked. God bless them. Hope you enjoy your beautiful day . I may sneak off to look at flowers.:):) xoxo,Susie

  6. Yes beans are slow in there, I always do it when I know I'm going to be busy all day so I can start in the am.

That sauce sounds yummy, I was wondering if those were really good.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Hey, Beth! Feel this giant mega hug? Opps, didn't mean to take your breath away, haha. You know, I've heard of that slow cooker sauce but didn't know anyone that tried it. In fact, my neighbor was asking about it yesterday and now I can tell her YOU said it was delish!
Don't you love this weather in the making...oooooo boy, it is so darn good, and flowers are popping up all over the place. Had to backspace there; first typed that flowers were pooping up all over the place. I'll blame all typos from now on on Lucy, the furry wonder. She can't stay away from the desk but really I think she just misses you.
Get your stuff done and then kick back and relax.....OR.....you're welcome to come over here and clean 'cause I still can't, haha. Good excuse, huh.
    Xoxoxo

  12. PS/ I wear a 7 shoe most of the time and occasionally a 6.5 depending on the cut. But I'd really rather have the toe-wriggle-room.

  15. Oh, yum! Now you have made me hungry for both lima beans and ham as well as pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy!

It sounds like you had a good shopping trip. You are correct about watching our purchases at Costco, though.

Enjoy your Friday! We have lots of sunshine here! xo Nellie

We had that nice day yesterday - today we have rain.

Kohl's is one of my favorite stores. They have the most amazing sales. : )

  17. Oh yum! Roast! Lima beans are not my favorite but maybe it's because they've never been cooked right.

  18. Hi Beth!
I'm so delighted to be visiting your blog for the first time. Nice and comfy cozy:) We are experiencing Spring like weather here in central Pennsylvania too, finally!!!

It sounds like you have a great day shopping with your daughter. I'll be shopping with mine soon too. I need to go to Idaho first though, lol...

I've never tried beans in the slow cooker but I've made lots of other things. I've been curious about that sauce. I guess it is time to try it!

Thank you so much for sharing, Beth...It was so nice to visit...

    1. I eat my big meal of the day at noon. It took so long that I was getting tired of waiting. 2 hours on high, 4 hours on low and then I was tired of waiting so I cooked them on high for 2 hours more. I will say this, they were really good!! :-)

  24. Nice here yesterday..first time I got out to go shopping in a long time without A COAT.. it was glorious. I use the crockpot all the time but I make my own pot roast..all the package stuff has way too much salt in it. Home made is better for me. I hear ya on the Club shopping places..way too much stuff to store and cook. Don't shop there much anymore. Take care and Prayers for you always..XoXo

  25. Oh Beth, that does sound good. When I was working, I used my slow cooker a lot. Now I tend to forget about it. I'll have to try that sometime. YES! Finally Spring - warmer weather. We're rainy and cool for this weekend, but I know this will be temporary.

  26. Your weather is improving fast Beth, you'll be having a heat wave soon.
I love my slow cooker, had the same one for almost 30 years now it cooks eight servings, , so I eat one first day and one second day and freeze the rest, soup, casseroles, whatever. I felt quite hungry and could almost smell your dinner. . Take it easy on the cleaning.

  28. I have seen those slow cooker things..I am afraid to ruin a roast just in case we don't like it!

  29. Today, it's supposed to get up to 82 degrees here in Pennsylvania. I'm still in shock over that. I tried a roast in the crock pot for the first time about a year ago and it turned out nice. Next time, I'll try it with the sauce, because it sounds really delicious.
