Waiting for an update…

on my brother-in-law.  When I get one I will share it with you all.  Thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts.

I have done nothing but rest the last few days, waiting for the antibiotic to kick in.  I think one minute I feel better and the next minute I don’t.  I noticed yesterday afternoon that the lilacs in the cemetery across from my back door were in bloom.  So I walked across the grassy lot to check them out.  It was a mistake because the wind was blowing at a pretty good clip and I wished I had kept my old sick self inside.

On the way across the lot I spied the first weed flower that blooms in Illinois in the springtime.  The beloved dandelion that we pay big bucks to the exterminator to eradicate from our yards.  I can remember eating many a dandelion green when I was growing up which is one reason I am not at all fond of greens of any kind now.

I also noticed while clopping through the grass that there was still a lot of the debris from the tornado in the grass.  Lots of pieces of shingles and some fairly large pieces of wood slivers.  I think these will play havoc with the lawn mowers when they start to mow.  Which should be soon because the grass is at least 6 inches high.

Then I moved on to the the first lilac bush.  This is a beautiful cemetery and it has a lot of lilac bushes surrounding it.  The cemetery is very large and usually one or two days a week if I look out my kitchen window I can see a burial taking place.  A lot of history in that place.  http://www.genealogytrails.com/ill/tazewell/zzzlakesidelist.html

  3. Those lilacs are beautiful! Not a fan of dendelion greens. Dad used to make us eat them and they made me gag. I think it was the texture. Yuck! Thinking of your brother-in-law. Hope all goes well.

  5. Love taking walks in a cemetery and the one near you looks particularly nice. One sees all the trees and shrubs, beautiful flowers, interesting bits of history or testimony, and it's usually very quiet and peaceful there for walking.

  7. Sending prayers for your brother-in-law, Beth. I love lilacs, and we have a couple of them. They are not too excited about showing their lovely blossoms, though. Perhaps they are too young at this point. Take care of yourself! xo Nellie

  9. Hi Beth, I am a bit behind in blogger land and seemed to have missed a few of your posts. I do hope you recover soon from your bug, lots of them around here also and we have all had to an extent, but Amanda and Zac were worse affected. I hope also you get good news about your brother in law. Take Care, Hugs Nita

  10. Prayers for you all. Lilacs are something I wish I had here. Always wanted to plant them along the lot lines, but sacrificed that for the family gatherings we have.

  14. I hope you are soon feeling better, and that your brother in laws surgery went well. The lilacs are looking beautiful. I noticed the dandelions in the fields around here are thriving, I thought they looked very pretty. Somehow I am not as enthusiastic when they appear on our lawn!

  16. Beth, The lilacs are beautiful. My Mom's favorite blooming bush. Mom had dark one, slight ones and even a white one. I have some of the light ones here that I got a start from. They are almost ready to bloom. Hope you hear good news about your BIL and that you start to feel brand new. xoxo,Susie

  20. I didn't get around to reading blogs yesterday so missed the prayer request for your brother in law. Hope all went well and I've said just said a prayer now.

The dandelions are out all over the place here. None in my yard though because the people that lived here before had a lawn service. We don't and I'm sure next year we will have them too. I actually like them and think a green lawn looks pretty speckled with the yellow dots.

I love lilacs. My neighbor has some but they are just not getting buds on them.

  22. How does one eat dandelion greens? Are they cooked? Recently, I dined with someone whose salad had edible flowers.

    Love,

  23. Hi Beth, well would you believe, I'd just finished doing a blog post about wild flowers, which I have no doubt you will be peeping at, :-) after I finished I thought I'd best hop over to yours and see what's about, not quite the same flowers, but nevertheless wild ones, I almost picked some lilac that was hanging over the fence, but changed my mind, though I'm not superstitious, I didn't want to tempt fate, I don't know if a superstition you are aware of, but it is supposed to be unlucky to take lilac indoors. Hope all will be well with your B.I.L take care.

  24. Prayers for your brother-in-law and I hope you are better soon, too!
That does sound like the debris is going to be hell on the lawnmowers. Sure looks pretty there. I love the smell of lilacs in the spring and the sight of yellow dandelions bursting against the green grass. :)
