Whoopsie Wednesday….

“Six vials of potentially deadly smallpox virus have been discovered in a place they shouldn’t have been — an unused corner of a storage room at a Food and Drug Administration laboratory in Maryland, federal health officials said Tuesday.”

“Smallpox was responsible for between 300 million and 500 million deaths in the 20th century. The last case of smallpox in the U.S. occurred in 1949; the last naturally occurring case in the world occurred in Somalia in 1977, the CDC said.”

Is this just a little bit frightening?  Makes me wonder what other goodies we have in this country just waiting to be discovered.  Well, I am going to play a Scarlett and not think about that today.

We all have sad things happening in our lives that we rarely speak of.  Believe me I am one of those persons.  Instead I am focused today on what a glorious day it is to be alive and I thank God for that.

The sun is shining and I have windows opened in my house letting the delightfully cool air blow through.  The temp is to reach upper 70s today and that is a rare July day in Illinois.

Yesterday my daughter and I went to Costco where I resisted the urge to buy the gigantic packages of toilet paper that were on display as you walk in the door.  I also resisted the packages of bottled water that had 70 bottles.  Now I could have used the water but I didn’t like the thought of having a heart attack while I was lifting it so I left it alone.  Times like that it would have been nice to have a good strong guy along.

Have a wonderful day!!  Stay safe and be happy!!

  6. Gorgeous little goldfinch. They are the cutest little birds. Speaking of birds, I'm loving both your quotes on the blog.....especially the headliner! There will always be something crazy going on in this world. I have tuned the TV off now and it is great! No outside noise and crazy because I think our own little worlds are crazy enough sometimes:)

  14. Hmmm...I read that, too, and thought a similar thing.Yikes!

I hear you about the wonderful things at the big box stores...we don't have Costco, but we do belong to BJ's. Even John staggers with some of those things...fifty pounds of kitty litter and the like.

  15. It's scary what carelessness exists with things like deadly diseases. Yikes!
Good job resisting stuff at Costco. I'm not a "store it up" kind of person, but I do like to buy random things that I don't really need and Costco is super tempting!

  16. I don't want to think about that either BUT there's something nasty in the back of my fridge that must be contained! LOL!! I also passed up a humungus package of tp and got a 6 roller LOL!!! Have a nice evening Beth.

  17. This is scaaaarrrry! What on earth. It's easy to let fear overtake us when we hear this. You're right we all have troubles. I think we need to be open so we can help someone else. I pray that your days will be better and that you will know peace.

  18. I agree, I try to focus on the positive and good things too. It has been a treat having this cooler July weather and I've enjoyed having my windows open.

  19. Isn't it grand to open the windows wide and let the air in? Most mornings, I can do that for a couple of hours before the heat gets bad.

  20. You brought back memories of when my grandmother called the goldfinch "wild canaries"!! We DO buy the large TP at Costco,,,,, store it in the basement, and just bring up one 6-pack at a time. It lasts a LONG time, and we never have to worry about running out!! :-) I don't like to buy many large boxes of the food items, because we can seldom use it up, but the TP and paper towels don't spoil and no exp date!!

  21. How scary is that?!
I wouldn't have enough room in my little apartment to store huge amounts of toilet paper--LOL! We had two glorious cooler days in the 70s up here, but now we're back in the 80s again. Even 80s are too hot for me. ;)

  23. Scary stuff Beth makes you wonder doesn't it.
Selling water bottles in packs of 70 , wow! I do admit I drink a lot of water. I think you were right to leave them alone though.
Hugs Sheila oh I just love that quote.
