We’re Only Here for a Little While…

Songwriters: Holyfield, W; Leigh, R;

I'm gonna hold who needs holdin'
Mend what needs mendin'
Walk what needs walkin'
Though it means an extra mile
Pray what needs prayin'
Say what needs sayin'
'Cause we're only here
For a little while
Today I stood singin' songs and sayin','Amen'
Saying goodbye to an old friend who seemed so young
He spent his life workin' hard to chase a dollar
Putting off until tomorrow the things he should have done
Made me start thinking, "What's the hurry, why the runnin'?
I don't like what I'm becoming, gonna change my style
Take my time and I take it all for granted
'Cause we're only here for a little while"
Gonna hold who needs holdin'
Mend what needs mendin'
Walk what needs walkin'
Though it means an extra mile
Pray what needs prayin'
Say what needs sayin'
'Cause we're only here
For a little while
Let me love like I'll never see tomorrow
Treat each day as though it's borrowed
Like it's precious as a child
Oh, take my hand
Let us reach out to each other
'Cause we're only here for a little while
Gonna hold who needs holdin'
Mend what needs mendin'
Walk what needs walkin'
Though it means an extra mile
Pray what needs prayin'
Say what needs sayin'
'Cause we're only here
For a little while
Gonna hold who needs holdin'
Mend what needs mendin'
Walk what needs walkin'
Though it means an extra mile
Pray what needs prayin'
Say what needs sayin'
'Cause we're only here
For a little while.

This is the way I am feeling today.

  5. Hi Beth,

I have read this after doing something I dont normally do. During the night, one of my neighbours, was shouting crying screaming and saying to another neighbour that she didnt care, nobody cared. She is only young and she told George a couple of weeks ago nobody liked her. Knew in church this morning I had to reach out, so I have just put a note through her door, telling her I prayed for her at 3.30 am. this morning and I am here if she wants to talk. Please pray for me, I dont know her very well and face to face is very different to over the net isn't it. Your post seemed to confirm what was said in church this morning, so pray God I have done the right thing. Hope you are okay and that you have a good week - hugs - Nita.

  6. Extraordinary post, Beth. What a wonderful song and lyrics and they are so, so true. I think the older we get, the more we "get it". The younger crowd still on the corporate climb is the group sadly missing out on the important stuff. They seem to be caught up in the "I want it and I want it now" syndrome and 'things' are all that count. Lol, and so today we see the collapse of the realestate economy for buying houses and things they couldn't really afford. What ever happened to living within means? Sheesh. Anyway, I'm digressing as usual, and I loved this beautiful reminder. I'm going to copy/paste the lyrics and post them on my fridge :D Thanks, sweetie! xoxoxo

  14. I've got a library of 9,041 songs and putting them on random in i-tunes never leaves me without some song to tap my foot to or get thinking about things...love that don't you?
