OK, where do I start…

this post?  It is a sunshiny very bright, bitter cold Monday morning.  The temp was 9 degrees F (wind chill of 0) when I got up this morning.  I need to go out after a bit and start up the car and clean the ice and snow off it.  This will be the third day in a row I have had to do this and winter hasn’t officially started yet.

My internet service was down for several hours last night and still wasn’t up when I went to bed at 10:30.  My email service was down for awhile this morning.  I am so thoroughly disgusted with Comcast.  Always something is down, usually my telephone and internet at the same time.  I will definitely check into the new service when my contract is up in April.

I have been busy this morning making cherry date cookies, my daughter’s favorite kind.

    Brown Sugar Fruit Drops

    05 Jul 2007

    by Beth Marie in Cookies

  • 1 cup margarine or butter

  • 2 cups brown sugar (packed)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 3 & 1/2 cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 & 1/2 cups broken pecans

  • 2 cups candied cherries, cut into halves

  • 2 cups cut up dates

Use mixer to thoroughly mix margarine, sugar, and eggs.  Mix the flour, soda and salt together.  Add to first mixture alternately with the buttermilk.  Fold in the cherries, dates and pecans.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Use baking sheet that you have sprayed with cooking spray.  Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto the baking sheet.  Bake 8 – 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Makes about 6 dozen cookies.  ***My daughter’s favorite cookie.

I also add candied pineapple and extra cherries and walnuts so I get lots of cookies.  You need to make the dough up in a huge bowl, especially if you get carried away like I do with the fruit and nuts.  If you don’t have buttermilk, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to milk to make 1/2 cup.

I hope you all have a great week.

    Red heart  Beth

  1. We have the nasty cold too. Even though winter came late it looks like it's not going to be to nice to us. Will make if feel longer. Those cookies do sound good. I think I read somewhere that Comcast wants to merger with another co. making it even hard to find a decent provider. Greedy, greedy, greedy.

  4. That's the one thing I had a terrible time with in Africa. The internet could be down for days or weeks at a time so communicating with home was a terrible trial. We remain fortunate to have an excellent service here. I hope something will work out for you this regard. You have some delightful recipes my friend. If I wasn't so darn tied up at this time of year I'd try it myself.

  5. Thanks for your visit. I had only posted it a few minutes before. Your Cherry Date cookies sound good, probably taste better. Here in Australia it is warm and with thunderstorms due this afternoon.

  6. I hate it when I can't get online...even if there's nothing I need to do. Can you access the 'net through your new Nook? At least with my Kindle, I can read my email when I'm away from my computer. I don't blame you for shopping around.

Stay warm, it sounds like this is going to be here for awhile...yeah, like for probably 3 months! Is it too early to start a spring countdown?

  8. I too have had trouble with internet like never before, i have At&t, which was BellSouth, and for the longest time didnt have any issues at all, the past few months it is getting frustrating.
i cant imagine getting up in the morning and shoveling or scrapping ice just to go somewhere or to work. When i got up this morning it was in the mid 20;s and i thought that was cold. Hope this isnt a sign of a bad winter for ya'll.

  9. I hate that you have such bad cold weather and the scraping ice is awful, been there a few years ago. It's gonna be about 20f in the AM here. Those cookies sure sound good. Good luck with Comcast. I've had better service with T-mobile than any I've had.

  10. Not quite as cold here (20's).
The last time I had comcast was 1999. I hardly had any internet and no phone problems with Verizon. I had Direct TV. They were a nightmare to deal with. I've had DishTV for several years and it's been trouble free.

I'll try one of those cookies now.
