Real News

The following is from an email that I received from my sister.  It brought tears to my eyes.  Today, on the last day of the year 2010, let these words touch your heart.

“Lindsay Lohan, 24, and Paris Hilton got their names and faces all over the news because they went to jail for a few short weeks or days for acting out, negative behavior, resisting arrest, cocaine possession, being drunk and disorderly, not to mention their insolent attitude.

What do you know about these men?

Justin Allen, 23

Brett Linley, 29

Matthew Weikert, 29

Justus Bartett, 27

Dave Santos , 21

Chase Stanley, 21

Jesse Reed, 26

Matthew Johnson, 21

Zachary Fisher, 24

Brandon King, 23

Christopher Goeke, 23

Sheldon Tate, 27

Do you recognize any of their names? No? None of them starred in a movie or made a record album, hit a homerun or scored a 3 point conversion or did a celebration in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. None of them brags about "showcasing their talents for their fans" while being paid millions and millions of dollars.

Did that help? No? Well then I should tell you that they are all Marines who gave their lives for YOU this week. They died for honor and country. They are all heroes of the highest magnitude. How much did you read about them ?

We are asking everyone to say a prayer for "Darkhorse" 3rd Battalion 5th Marines and their families. They are fighting it out in Afghanistan & they have lost 9 marines in 4 days.

I will be keeping them in my Prayers.

  3. Yes, it is sad to think that these men just don't make the news, unless they live in our areas. They ARE the real heros out there and I applaud this blog for remembering them. Even though my son is not over there in the fight, I am eternally grateful that he is serving his country and trying to make things better for us all. Happy New Year, Beth.

  6. Stephen, I pray each day for all of our servicemen and women. I pray that God will keep your son in His care and that you and I both will live long enough to see the end of this war.

  7. I got the same e-mail, and when i got it I checked it out on snopes, and it is true.It is a shame that we can spend three weeks honoring a dead Hollywood celebrity, but little if no time for our brave troops. WHY don't more shows like Nancy Grace honor at leat one fallen hero a day on their show? Thanks for sharing, and "Happy New Year!"

  8. Dearest Beth, WAR is such an ugly word!!! It is hard to fight the tears back reading this. I pray too that God will keep all servicemen and women in His loving care, along with their families. I would like to see all wars cease! Trusting in the Lord, peace on earth will prevail. Love, Kerrie. xOx

  9. It is a shame that our service folks don't get any respect and I hate it when I see these so called stars getting the attention.
    Happy New Year.

  13. That is exactly right. I am afraid the world's priorities are totally gone away from those that we were born and reared with. It's amazing how graphic and uncaring the media..all of it, is and how those who see it allow themselves to be trained, so to speak, to the trivial and uncaring attitude that are printed or spoken just to sell products. It is sad and scary.

Happy New Year Beth, to you and your family and words can't be found to tell you what your care and support during this rough patch we've been going through, meant to me. Many hugs and love.

  14. Sobering and powerful. I never understand the obsession with the idiots that seem to endlessly make the news for their horrible examples. I figure if there were actual justice for those that behaved so badly and those that have behaved admirably alike we'd be a lot better off. None the less I salute those that have sacrificed so much for our liberties. Thank you for posting this my friend.

  15. How true!In a affluent world they live in they have no idea who gave their life for such a life style. Some day maybe they will grow some integrity. But that won't happen if they get juged differently then everyday citizens, and that seems to be the problem.

  16. I see those names - such YOUNG names and I think about the excited young couples who thought and thought and came up with a name for the baby for whom they had so many dreams and settling on Brandon or Justus or Chase and how they must be feeling now. It is terribly wrong that we can have a serious war going on which impacts so few of us. A nation should not go to war unless everyone is forced to share the burden in blood, deprivation or money. These wars that seem to be the province and burden of such a small subset of the population are not only an aberration of Nature, but too easy to get into and too hard to get out of, with a bunch of politicos salivating at the chance to blame the other guy for 'losing'.
