Monday Morning…
and guess what? It is snowing again and my car is covered again. Now how many days was it till Spring? Let me calculate quickly. Oh yes, somewhere around 63 days, give or take a day or two.
I am on this oversleeping kick, 7:30 this morning. I think I must be making up for the sleepless nights I had last week. Oh well, I guess it doesn’t matter all that much.
This year is the 25th anniversary of the first federally celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.Day. I think Mr. King was a fine man well deserving of a holiday in his honor. When I worked for civil service I was delighted at all the holidays that were celebrated on a Monday. Now, as I have said many times before, I don’t like Monday holidays. I like to get my mail on Monday. Otherwise Monday holidays don’t affect very much else. The businesses are still open.
Getting back to business, the reason that nothing can be returned to the Sears store here in town is the fact that it is going out of business (closing its doors). The Sears store in Peoria will remain open. That is the reason why I am leery of buying a sewing machine here at the Sears store. However if they mark down the price sufficiently I might change my mind. There were quite a lot of them in the store when we were there on Friday.
Hooray for the Bears for their win I guess. I am not a football fan but I know that Jim always cheered them on and my son in law and nephew do too. I am more of a baseball fan and I cheer loudly for the St. Louis Cardinals in the baseball season and wear my Cardinal T-Shirt proudly. I also love basketball and cheer for the men’s basketball team at the University of Illinois.
I should close this out as it is painfully obvious to me and to you too that I have nothing important to say today. I hope that you all have a good week.
Beth
The Packers and Bears meet for the NFC championship next weekend. That will be only the second time and it's been years since they did the first time. It's going to be a much watched game I think.
ReplyDeleteSnowing like crazy here!
Sears is the one company with which I will not do business again EVER. I can tell you TEN bad stories that happened to me or people I know personally (not just heard about). But if you do find the price too good to resist, be aware (my nephew in retail tells me) that if you get a good brand, that company will very likely put things right if there is a problem AND you have the proof of purchase info. Most good companies replace defective items - they care about their reputation.
ReplyDeleteI remember the assassination of King so well - it seemed like everybody was getting shot around that time. It was actually King's death that made me a lifelong zealot on civil rights. The non-violent work of his colleagues and followers at that time were so amazingly courageous and strong and noble. These people literally put their lives on the line and many lost them, not like the cowardly idiots that attack via the internet any time someone does anything of value.
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteoh no not snow again, we are snow free at the moment. But I am counting my blessings weatherwise at the moment anyway. I didnt wake until 8 a.m. so you were up early!!!
Take care, hugs Nita.
We're to be receiving rain, not snow today.
ReplyDeleteI used to work at Sears in the Eastland Mall in Bloomington. And I could tell you bad stories coming from the other side of what Dave said. Suffice it to say, the policy of the customer always being right...only works if the customer is honest. Also could tell stories of when I definitely felt the customer wasn't treated right. It was an education working there for 6 years.
Meant to say we're thankful to be receiving rain, not snow today. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have another freezing rain advisory today I guess which I don't think I've ever seen in Montana in January...for sure not several days of that possibility. I'm with you about football, I truly couldn't care less. Maybe much of this is do to the fact that our state doesn't have any major league teams. Have a great day my friend.
ReplyDeleteI hate this weather! I hope your day goes well.
ReplyDeleteHEY! What's this, "...as it is painfully obvious to me and to you too that I have nothing important to say today." Good gracious, Beth, YOU are important, and like I told Arlene today, our blog group is more like a neighborhood on conference call with the phone; daily stuff, good stuff, icky stuff, all things neighbors talk over the back fence. I love it. People that write what they think is the Great American Blog think they will be "discovered" and become famous. Geez. Fooling themselves and what's worse is they're missing all the fun.
ReplyDeleteXOXOXO
Whooo you always have something interesting to say Beth. I do hope you get that sewing machine you have set your heart on, at a very good reduced price. Keep on rolling Hugs Sheila xx
ReplyDeleteI wish I had kept up my sewing but I was too impatient and besides, that impatience made me keep at it till the project was done..only stopping for the night when I couldn't hold my eyes open. I wasn't and still am not very patient. I have become less that way but, don't have the incentive to start or buy a machine.
