Some days are diamonds, some days are stones…

Some Days Are Diamonds
~ John Denver ~

When You asked how I've been here without you
I'd like to say I've been fine and I do.
But we both know the truth is hard to come by
And if I told the truth, that's not quite true

Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.
Now the face that I see in my mirror
More and more is a stranger to me
More and more I can see there's a danger
In becoming what I never thought I'd be.
Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.

Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.
And isn’t it the truth!  Yesterday was a diamond day for me.  I received a phone call from my old friends Anne and Bill .  They were my neighbors down the street back home.  Bill was Jim’s best friend.  Oh my, they could sit on the back porch and have all of the problems of the world worked out in an hour or so.  I would just smile and carry them a glass of iced tea or a cup of coffee.  Anyway, to get back  to what made my day a diamond, Bill called and the first thing he said was “I am in remission.”  I have mentioned before that Bill has stage 4 cancer which began with cancer in a kidney several years ago.  All I could say when he told me this was “Thank you God.”  I know what remission means.  Jim had one 6 month period of remission and those were happy times for us.  What I am saying, is just be thankful for the diamond days and throw the stones away.
I woke up to 9 degrees this morning, that was above zero today.  We had some more snow last night and my car is covered again.  I need things from the grocery store today so I will have to go out and get that cleaned off again.
I hope you all have a good weekend filled with ‘diamond’ days.

  2. What a coincidence! Yesterday was a diamond for me also - a girl (I just can't say 'woman' for an old elementary and high school classmate!) called after several months of silence ALSO named Anne. We had gotten back into communication during the run-up to our class reunion, and I had come to really like her husband - and I believed he also liked me. Then - silence. I was somewhat hurt - I had sent a longish letter after the reunion and nothing, so I felt continued pelting with contacts would be somewhat annoying to them if they didn't want to continue the contact. It turned out that the week after the reunion this friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been through two surgeries and is now facing radiation, although the prognosis is hopeful. Although she has been having days of stone, the knowledge that she indeed wanted to continue our re-acquaintnce made my day. But is't it odd that we both had a diamond day involving an old friend named Anne, and a friend with cancer? I so hope both our friends beat the enemy - another double diamond for us!

  4. That's so true Beth. I'm so happy for your friends and pray he stays in remission for many years.
I had a diamond day yesterday. I found out my niece is pregnant with TWINS. I'm so excited for her. Until now I was the only one in the family to have twins so this will be fun.
Have a diamond day today too Beth.
    Hugs

  7. The days that are stones won't really hurt unless we let them get in our shoe! Appreciating the days we have is so important and I have to admit that I need to work on that. It's spitting a sloppy wet snow right now and I'm reminding myself that it can't last forever! Have a blessed day my friend...surely the good news of this day will keep you warm if nothing else will!

  17. Wow, glad your friend is in remission! So nice to have contact with old friends. I miss that out here in CA---my old friends are scattered all over the US. NEVER see them. But my new friends out here are becoming old friends too. I agree about the Diamond and Stone Days. I've had a good share of Diamond days lately and dread those Stone days when they descend. But tomorrow can always become a Diamond!

  21. Diamond Days, such a wonderful descriptive term, Beth, and I used to listen a lot to John Denver, when mum was alive. 22. I am sure we all recognise the diamond days as days that glitter, bright, flawless and free, whereas the ‘stone’ days are much harder to manage. Sometimes the stones seem to pile up on us until we feel like we’re trying to struggle up out of a pit but keep getting slammed back down. We battle to communicate with our partners, we clash with our children, work seems uninspiring and endlessly dull and we feel we are going nowhere. But hey, as long as we have more diamond days, then we are doing ok!
Hoping for many more Diamonds and alot less stones for you Beth.
