Let’s try that egg thing again…

A couple of weeks ago one of the reporters from a local TV station tried frying bacon and eggs on the hood of a car.  It was the day we had the terrific heat index of 118.  The egg scrambled and cooked but the bacon did nothing much.  This was picked up by HLN cable and I saw it broadcast several times during the day.  Well, hey guy, get some more eggs ready.  The temp is to reach the upper 90s today and the heat index 109 to 112.  I am out of milk so I need to make a grocery run and I think I need to do it soon before the heat advisory starts at noon.

Yesterday morning while waiting in the dermatologist waiting room I did what I love to do.  I observed people…My appointment was for 7:45 AM.  I watched the people until I was called back.  One old couple was so sweet it brought a tear to my eye.  The lady was called back for her appointment and the gentleman was hanging back, still sitting down.  She turned around and asked him to come with her and the nurse told her that would be fine.  She said in a wavering little voice that he had been going every where with her for over 70 years.  So sweet, naturally I thought of Jim.  Devotion like that in today’s age is a rare thing.  I also noticed a teenage girl in cut off jean shorts with the pockets hanging down that left nothing much to the imagination.  I thought, my gosh, does she know how she looks; and then I thought, you know what, I wore shorts that were that short when I was her age.  My 15 minutes of fame was long ago.

As we started home heading out to McClugage Bridge the roads were blocked off by fuzz cars so we had to go a different route to get home.  I watched the news but I never did see a reason why.  The pics in this link of the bridge are very interesting.  I am fascinated by bridges.

McClugage Bridge

Then, in the hottest part of the day yesterday, the power went off in my daughter’s neighborhood for a couple of hours.  And that is what I dread the most in this terrible heat.

Stay cool you all!!

  6. Ever since this heat wave started I've pictured myself spending hours sitting in Godzilla with Buddy while the engine idling keeps the cool air flowing if the power fails. Between my COPD and his double coat neither of us is in any shape to take the heat.

Stay cool and remember that September is just around the corner.

  8. It's only 73 here so the heat of yesterday seems a bit further away somehow. Times have changed for sure. My wife and I are still young but many that I see today that are younger than us have a divorce under there belt and terrible situations. There are times when I feel like a living relic in spite of age. I guess I'd rather fall behind the times in this regard!

  9. It's pleasantly warm her in UK I like it around 72 deg the sun doesn't have to shine, just be warm, but your temps are something else, I hope the electric doesn't fail you.

  10. The last time Vicki went to the docs they wouldn't let me ho in with her. I don't think we have the heat index thing that you talk about.

  11. I'm really getting sick of summer, although I've never been a fan of it anyway. Give me 12 months of spring and fall and I'll be a happy camper.

  14. Couples like that just warm the heart. The heat itself doesn't really get to me much, but the humidity is awful.
Funny how we forget some of the things we used to where, then a picture shows up and UGH, lol.
Bridges terrify me for some reason. Make driving quite uncomfortable at times. I know, I'm a little silly.
