Not much…

to report on the home front today and I am thankful for that.  I was sad that I was unable to go home for my friend’s funeral.  It is too long a trip to go alone.

However, today is sunshiny and beautiful with the promise of brighter days ahead.  It is 52 degrees today, to get up to 65 for the high.  It doesn’t get much better than that for a great fall day.  And this is the first day of Autumn.  I love the fall and the spring of the year.  The winter I can definitely do without.  I guess I really don’t mind snow so much if I can still get out and go.  The February blizzard of this year is still fresh in my mind.  In fact, last winter is still fresh in my mind as it was one of the worst that I can remember in my lifetime.

We are still suffering drought here with less than 3 inches total rainfall for the months of July, August and September.  My marigolds are dead as we had a frost a week or so ago and I didn’t cover them.  I will try again next year.

I miss having my own house and my beautiful flowers.  My friend Sandi told me that she takes long walks through the cemetery at home keeping an eye on Jim’s grave and I know that my friend Jo puts flowers on it too.  I have met some really nice people here but nothing to compare with old friends of many years.  Oh, I am sorry for being so nostalgic.  Probably because of Jim’s birthday yesterday and mine looming ahead.  Nothing like growing a year older to put your thoughts in prospective.

I have a few errands to run.  But first I want to share this picture with you.

  6. If you hadn't loved him, you wouldn't miss him, right? So miss him! Enjoy your memories and be proud of your tears. There are times of the year where the memories are stronger--birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. Yes, life goes on...but we should never be ashamed of missing people the people we love.

Cute pic of the boys. I remember when my son was that age. Time just flies by so quickly. Just makes you appreciate how precious life is. I agree! Do something special for yourself on your birthday. You deserve it!! :):)

  7. Ah, yes, autumn is here. We desperately need rain here too. Sorry you couldn't go to your friend's celebration of life, but we feel we aren't up to the rigors of travel anymore either, so I understand. I hope your autumn is beautiful. from Bertie

  8. I know what you mean about the nostalgia. Are we ever so young that doesn't hit us once in a while? We had a big warm up with it hitting the upper eighties today and that is supposed to proceed for about a week. I am very happy with that though I know it's only a matter of time before it all changes. It gets dark early too. I remember last winter as well...it was a brute for us too. One day at a time live the best we can day by day. Bless you Beth.

  11. Hi Beth, you don't have to be there in body for a friend to know you're thinking of them and their passing, i'm sure they know and understand. so be kind to yourself, with Jim's birthday and your own coming up, you've got enough on your mind, In case i'm not around Sunday, have a nice one,
i too dread the coming of winter, though it has been nice here for a few days, and with a promise of more to come, it all helps make the winter shorter. wrap up well. Arlene

  16. Beth I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It has been still very warm here with a couple light frost and I had everything covered so the flowers are still blooming like crazy. I have never in the 20 years here had such good luck with flowers here. Ok the garden was the pitts this year. I know how you must miss all your flowers you use to have. They so brighten my day often. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs Carrie
