First day of Spring

Not sure when Spring is scheduled to start?  http://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-spring-vernal-equinox  I see it is 1:14 AM  EST on 20 March so that would make it 12:14 AM CST.   I think that means there are exactly 34 days left on the countdown to Spring.  So far I haven’t seen a single sign of Spring.   And although I heard we had robins stay here all winter not one has been gracious enough to honor me with his presence.

Where I was living before in this tiny little town of 4300 the local newspaper was published on Thursday.  Each week on Thursday I would center my blog around the local news.  Mostly feel good stuff with the occasional driving under the influence, etc.  I already knew all of this stuff because I had a scanner that I listened to that kept me up to date.    There is a lot more news where I live now and each day someone  is shot or murdered in the Peoria area.  Right now the headlines are ‘Search efforts continue for a missing 73 year old man with Alzheimer’s Disease.’  This is happening so frequently anymore.  This man has been missing since Sunday and I am sure his family is frantic by now.  This brings to mind “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks.  A beautiful story.  I  read the book and have seen the movie.  Makes me cry every time.

Rain is on tap here today through tomorrow.  It is 35 degrees right now.  I have a doctor appointment in the morning so I hope it is through raining by then.

All for now.  I hope you all have a peaceful day.  I am praying that the 73 year old man is found safe.

You all stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. I sure hope spring comes soon this year..I have really enjoyed this warmer winter..so much easier to get around and not having to wear such heavy coats and boots. No snow and ice is just fine with me. Hope the dr visit goes okay.

  2. Have you read "I'm Still Alice"? I have the book but can't see it just now to tell you the author. It is a riviting story written by a Dr. about a 50 yr. old woman, just turned with early on-set Alzheimer's. She was a Professor at Harvard. Goes to show you..mind exercises aren't the key. Talk to you later and Katie said you're right. COVERthe butter if you don't want it eaten up.

  3. My son-in-law's mom left for the insurance office last November to pay her insurance premium. She never arrived there and didn't return home. The police there issued a "silver alert" and were looking for her all weekend. They found her Monday morning, several miles from where she intended to go, in a parking lot in her car, with the door open during a snow storm. They lived near Boulder Colo. She was unconcious when they found her. She went into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital, they revived her, but was going to have to be kept on life support. Before my son-in-law and his brother had to make the decision on whether to keep her on life support, she passed away. It was a horrible ordeal for them all. The one thing that helped them was the doctor told them that freezing was a kind way to die because you just go to sleep and never wake up. We don't know if she got lost, or if she got confused, but she was just a couple of miles away from where the police were looking. I hope the man there is found.

  4. My grandmother had that awful disease and could wander off at times...it's truly a horrible disease. Yesterday we had a 12 year old attempt to run off with a man from California that was 28. Fortunately they put a stop to that...horrifying thing...I surely do feel for the parents but it could have been far worse. On the brighter side I am glad to see spring's approach. We have a week ahead in the high forties which isn't too bad for February especially considering last year!

  5. That reminds me of my grandfather in cold winter took a 'walk' but was in his long johns and barefoot. He died of pneumonia from the incident.
I sometimes wonder if I should write a notebook. I so love the movie and how reading the story brought her back for awhile to him.
Spring will arrive Beth and we will cheer!

    1. I am half Irish. I will tell you my maiden name in a msg one of these days. When my sister visited Ireland a few years ago she visited a village where almost all of the residents had our last name.

  9. I think that is the one thing that scares us most about aging. Not knowing where, who etc. 45 here today, melting nicely before the snow shows up again. Hopefully it won't be much or too often and done in the last couple weeks of Feb.

  11. Beth, it is in the 40's here in the Northwest today with sunshine. It does feel good. I, too, can't wait for Speing and the beauty of new life everywhere.

I also hope the man is found soon. Bertieblue

  12. The closer you live to a large city the more you awful news you hear. I certainly have heard a good deal of it. I can even remember the Boston Strangler when I was young.
The weather is warming up again. I know spring is close because I saw my first mosquito today. At least I think it was a mosquito.
    Where's the snow? Not here.

  13. I'm finally recovered enough to attempt catching up on all the reading I've missed over the past couple of months. We've basically had no real winter this year. I talked to mom yesterday and she's had more snow this year than we've had! Today we were out shooting pictures and I was tempted to take my jacket off but I was carrying a gun and didn't want to spook anyone even though open carry is legal here. I wish I didn't feel the need for one but with the oxycontin and meth problems plaguing even our rural area i feel it's better to have a weapon and not need it than to need it and not have it.

  14. Oh that poor man and his family. We do hear more and more of that, and with the aging population, those situations will only increase. I loved the Notebook - best movie in a long time.
