A Blooming Wednesday…

Yes, that is right, one of my two tomato plants has a bloom on it.  So in another couple of months I might have a tomato, that is if nothing gets to it before I do.  I have about $14 invested in these tomato plants.  I could go to the store and buy $14 worth of tomatoes but what is the fun in that?  Besides at the price per pound of tomatoes right now that wouldn’t amount to much.

Can you all see that little bloom?                 My other plant.

The flowers that my next door neighbors have planted.

I finished the cleaning yesterday and today I feel lackadaisical.  I need to perk up though because I have a doctor appointment this afternoon.

How is that for a word study lesson?

One of my new blogging friends, Nellie,  is a retired teacher.  Please,  stop by and say hello to her if you have a minute.  She welcomes new blogging friends.

  1. I see it. Just a little bud, but oh what it will be. Nothing tastes better than a tomato just picked from the plant. Hope you get lots.

  3. Oooo...carelessly lazy. I like that.

I see that little bugger. I hate to tell you this, but I always pick off the first few flowers to give the plant the chance to develop better. It's hard, I know...But my tomatoes will get to be close to 5 ft tall, and they need strong roots and stems.

Have a good dr appt-- hugs to you on this fine Wednesday!!

  5. I think your tomatoes need some Miracle Grow. There is nothing like it for making happy productive plants.

The doc needs to see you as you are. If you perk up for him, he or she won't realize how you really feel. Hope th appointment is helpful. ;-) BGB

  7. Good Wednesday morning, Beth, and thank you for mentioning my blog.:)

Regarding the word study, there are days that I consider myself "carelessly lazy," too.:) Sometimes I think it is well-deserved.:)

We haven't ever picked off blooms from our tomato plants - or any other plants, for that matter. Nor have we ever used Miracle-Gro. We just rely on our compost.

I have a doctor's appointment on Friday at 8:30 in the morning! What was I thinking to make it that early?!? I hope your appointment will have good results.

    xoxo

  9. We are waiting for some action from the plants we started from seeds. The season here is short so it remains to be seen if we'll get anything. The flowers right now are between blooms so that's a little dreary too however waiting for the buds builds the anticipation! have a good appointment my friend.

  11. Hope you get lots of tomatoes from your plants. Yes, you could buy them at the store but they NEVER taste as good as the ones you grow yourself. : )

  12. Hi Beth, there's one thing I found out is that tomatoes need quite a big pot so that they can retain enough moisture and fertilizer to grow both the roots and the rest of the plant. Last year I used smaller pots and had a terrible harvest. I will see how things go this year.

  13. My dad had a garden every year. There's nothing like a salad from fresh picked tomato's and lettuce and whatever else he grew out there. I miss him and the garden.
