Hi Ho Hi Ho…

it was off to the garage sales I went.  I didn’t use the map, but I found 4 garage sales and a church sale.  It was lots of fun, even going by myself.  I found like new paperbacks, tins to pack goodies in and miscellaneous.  There were 2 neighborhood sales but they were in parts of the city that I had never heard of.  Two years ago when I first moved here I got lost and I didn’t want to repeat that so I stuck to the streets I am familiar with.  Have I told you all before that I love garage sales.

Jim and I used to leave on Saturday morning about 7 AM, arrive back home about 2 PM and hit all of the neighboring towns garage sales.  Champaign/Urbana was our favorite place to go.  There were always lots of sales there because of the University.  I also loved to have a garage sale.  Getting the stuff ready wasn’t much fun but I loved talking to the people.  That is one of the things I miss most here is the interaction with people.  I did try to volunteer at the Senior Center but they didn’t need volunteers at that time.; and then my health started going down hill.   But I haven’t given up hope!

I am looking for some get up and go so that I can do a little cleaning.  I also have laundry to do but I just may read a book instead.  I hope you are all having a peaceful day.  The sun is shining brightly and it is supposed to reach the 80s again today.

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Glad you found some treasures on your outing. CLoudy here and looks like rain. I doubt people have too much luck today. Warmer weather brings the sales out like crazy.Nice meeting new people in a new place. Hope the rest of the weekend goes as well. :)

  2. Thats right Beth don't give up! There must be plenty of other places that would be blest to have you volunteer for them! Have a great day!

  3. Hillsville, VA host a huge yard sale every year and my brother in law always goes down, spends the entire day and still doesn't visit all the stalls available. I was happy when the Wytheville VA clinic opened because it meant not having to fight through the hordes of shoppers in Hillsville to get to the clinic there.

  4. Ooooooooooooo - those books are my kind of reading too. I haven't been to a garage sale in years but do visit the large Goodwill store often when we're in SC. It always amazes and even overwhelms me to see how much "stuff" comes and goes through there.

  5. I'm glad you're being able to get out some like that my friend! I know it's been difficult but you haven't given up and I truly appreciate that. I wish I had your temperatures around here...we took another nose dive in temps and it's gloomy. Have a great day Beth!

  6. My dad was a huge garage sale shopper. It didn't always make my mom happy, but he would try to shop towards the end of garage sales and offer a set amount for everything left. The people usually took his offer because they just wanted to get rid of the stuff. He would come home and share the wealth with everyone, then take what we didn't want and sell it to someone else and usually made his money back plus. He would also do that at the end of seasons when the stores would mark their seasonal items down. We all decorated our trees from a Hallmark store that was going out of business. lol

You are lucky it is still in the 80's there. It hit 93 officially here today, and with the humidity, it felt like 97. Miserable already and a month with no rain. I hope we are not set up for the same drought as last year.

My mom and her sister decided when they retired that they would go once a week and visit people in the nursing homes. They made friends this way and brightened up several ladies and gentlemans days. Do you have any nursing homes close? So many of them need cheering up because many of their families drop them off there and forget about them. Sad, really.

  10. You know, I've never been one to do garage sales, and I have no clue why. I'm always craning my neck when we go by one to see what they have, but never stop. Well look what I'm missing. Darn.
