I am mourning along with the rest of America the senseless deaths Thursday night in Colorado. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/20/batman-shooting-aurora-critically-injured_n_1691217.html
Is it safe to go out in public anymore? You might be sitting in a McDonalds or even as I was in a KFC yesterday when some lunatic comes in and starts shooting. We have to believe that we are safe when we go out in public, otherwise we would be afraid to leave our homes, and even that might not be safe. I usually don’t quote excerpts from the Bible in my blog. Today I am making an exception. I tend to be a worrier, if I get one problem solved in my mind a new one soon takes its place. Matthew 6:34 tells us not to worry about tomorrow, just to let the days own troubles be sufficient. I usually recite these words out loud several times a day. It does help.

I made potato salad this morning. Tomorrow my daughter and son in law are stopping by after church for lunch. I am having the potato salad, barbeque beef on buns and baked beans along with cherry pie (my daughter’s favorite) that Marie Callendar helped me make. Other than the cooking, I am not doing much today. I am going to treat myself to a couple of chapters from my new Sandford book. A question for M in Wisconsin. Have you read his Virgil Flowers books?? I love them too although I haven’t purchased the newest one yet.
I am settling in for a peaceful weekend. I hope you all do the same. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
P.S. I have made a resolution to not mention the excessive heat and lack of rain. Doesn’t do anything but give me something else to worry about. lol
Amen.
ReplyDeleteAnd they will be nice to have family over after dinner the menu sounds good.

lunch sounds yummy. It is getting to the point that there are just too many crazy people in this world.
ReplyDeletei think it is good of us in america to remember how fortunate we are to live here. some people face terror, bombings, shootings, riots every day of their existence. we are suddenly jolted out of our every day life when something horrific like this happens here. to other souls around the world, it is their every day...
ReplyDeleteMy son, Max, went to a Midnight showing of that new Batman movie---and thank goodness things went fine. However, when I heard about the shootings in CO, a shudder went up my spine. It's a shame one has to be looking out for the lunatics out there, but there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it. I just discussed the whole event with Max and what I'd do if I were in that situation. We must be thankful for our safe children at all times.
ReplyDeleteI think TexWisGirl expressed my feelings. Our incidents are sporadic, although getting worse I think and taking out larger numbers of innocent bystanders. Wisconsin last year passed that law where it's now legal to openly carry your weapon in public places. That makes me very very nervous because probably half the people carrying really aren't skilled marksmen. And, who knows how many of those people are nuts!!
ReplyDeleteI have read some Virgil Flowers books. They were pretty good, but my favorite are the original. I'd certianly read Vigil Flowers tho - they are worth reading.
So many crazy people with guns in the world. It's hard to understand why these things happen.
ReplyDeleteYour meal sounds delicious. I hope you enjoy the time with your family.
Hi Beth, Have a lovely weekend hun... big hug
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteFrom one worrier to another. Matt 6 -34 sounds good to recite.
Enjoy your lunch tomorrow and have a joyful peaceful weekend.
Hugs Nita
I just saw the faces of the victims. I'm really really angry. Why is this happening around the world more and more? Part of me blames the parents. Jared Loughner comes to mind with Gabriela Gifford or the nursing students at the UA many years ago. It doesn't make sense. When a child is killed, it affects all of us even more. One of the victims of this tragedy was celebrating his birthday. An hour before the movie opened, he posted on his facebook, "This is going to be the best birthday ever!" I shared in his excitement that night....and then this son of a %^#$ ruined it for everyone. Why? And why did his mother know it was him? Why didn't someone interevene? I don't understand it and I'm sad and angry. I'm sorry for the negativity....but where are we heading?
ReplyDeleteGood Bible passage to remember. Have a nice, peaceful weekend and enjoy your kids. BGB
ReplyDeleteI should speak Matthew 6:34 out loud every day! Thank you for the reiminder.
ReplyDeleteYour dinner for tomorrow sounds so good! We'll be grilling pork ribs and I'll be making potato salad. :)
I think about these atrocities sometimes when I go out. That is a good scripture to remember.Enjoy your family tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteVery scary world we are living in right now..we must have faith that the LORD will watch over us all. Sending prayers to all those in COLO involved..many will be tramatized fora long time to come. Take care and stay cool.XXOO
ReplyDeleteI missed quite a few posts! Sorry about that, things get crazy when I have the blog party going on, not to mention getting ready for my hubby's family coming over tomorrow after church, only "Marie" didn't show up at my house! I may have to give her a call next time! Your meal for tomorrow sounds really nice. I think I've read some of that author's books! I love to read and have been really missing doing that with all the blogging I do. Some nights I try and only get a few pages before I start to fall asleep. I tend to worry also and just need to turn to my Bible also for comfort. Hope you're having a nice weekend. Enjoy your company tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord IS always there beside you and the Holy Spirit is within all true believers. We are not alone and it is well to remember that. Our corporeal life here on earth makes it hard to remember that basic thing. He is always with us and He said He will never leave us.

It sounds like a wonderful lunch. I like your verse and like you I am always saying that verse to myself. I really do hate to worry.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry the heat killed your tomatos this year. It is true it is hard to find good ones. I think that is why I am enjoying them so much.
Have a lovely day tomorrow Beth, the cherry pie sounds wonderful!
I think everyone is upset by the events in Colorado. I grew up in Denver and still have family living in Aurora. My husband also lived in Aurora for a while and said the shooter's apartment building looks like the very one he lived in several years ago. The whole thing is upsetting and sickening. It is so good that we can turn to God and the scriptures for peace and reassurance. Hope you enjoy spending some time with your family tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about trying not to worry about tomorrow. But this world is so full of "what if's" now that you almost can't help but worry a little when you do something or go somewhere after a tragedy happens. Resting in God's grace and mercy is the only way to get through it all.
ReplyDeleteI was very upset to hear about the incident in Colorado Beth.It is a very scary World we live in.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your family Lunch. Sheila xx
