I remember…

Some of my blogging friends have been posting pictures of bridges/foot bridges the past couple of weeks.  We had foot bridges at home that crossed the railroad cut.

If you will click on these pictures they will become bigger.

library and railroad cut aug08 007   The foot bridge you see in the last picture was just one block from my home.  I remember one sunny hot Sunday afternoon Jim and I were sitting on the back porch listening to the police scanner.  Sirens started going off and the ambulance and fire trucks were called to the area of this bridge.  Someone had jumped off the bridge trying to commit suicide.  Quite a bit of excitement for our little town of just over 4,000.  Fortunately the young man wasn’t too seriously hurt.

***********

It is to be mid to upper 90s today and all  of this week.  We got .47 inches of rain yesterday which puts us at about 1 &1/2 inches total for the month of June and July combined.

I put a roast on with carrots, potatoes and onions when I first got up this morning, hoping to beat the heat of the day.

I hope you all have a peaceful day.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Oh that supper will be SO good. I wish I was there. Are the kids coming over to help eat all that? Any mashed potatoes to go even though there are a few in the roasting pan? Gort any (non canned) green peas? How about putting a little sugar, like half a teasspoon and some butter and try those with the roast as a side?
    'Yum.

I'm so glad the young man was not successful in his attempt at suicide! I do like the RR tracks and footbridge.

  4. Interesting but sad story about the young man jumping from the bridge. I hope he was able to get his life together. Your pot roast sounds so good! I love pot roast in the crock pot with carrots, potatos and onions...think I will buy a roast next time I go to the store. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a blessed Sunday!

  7. What a great theme of railroad and bridges. I am looking at the height on the bridge isn't very high for committing suicide. Maybe that was the highest thing in town to jump from. Well it's before breakfast here and suppose to have severe thunderstorms all day. Clouds are just moving in. Go glad we have has so much rain lately. With the lightening strikes I have seen our forest would have been ablaze. Have a wonderful week. Hugs Carrie

  14. We've broken some heat records up here this summer so far. For all our cloudy days and threats of rain we only had about 5.5 inches of rain in May and June. Less than usual for us, but not a drought like so many have had this summer.
Your pot roast sounds good. I hate to run the oven when it's hot. Using the crock pot sounds like a great idea. ;)

  16. The power was off so there was no church for us this morning which we sure didn't expect...warm still here with not much rain...I hear we are around 4 inches behind now. We went to a nice barbecue with some people my wife knows that I've never met so it was a nice day. I like those bridges...there's something about them that I really like.

  21. Cool snapshots Beth. This would have been quite the view from your backyard, seems quite peaceful despite the one incident mentioned.
I love taking walks and could see myself enjoying a nice leisurely stroll along these railways... over the bridges. I prefer to take walks off the beaten paths, more solitude.
