and not so sweet because I am just home after being out in this dreadful heat. It is in the 90s already and to climb to actual temperature of 103 –104.
I had a test done at the hospital and then I went to Food Depot to pick up a few things. Their brand of canned vegetables were all 38 cents a can. I have used the store brand before and I think the quality compares to name brand. I am picky and will not buy some store brands.
I hope you are all staying in where it is cool. It is too hot to be out very long. I felt kind of funny this morning as I was out moving around in the heat.
I will try and get caught up with you all now. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
It cooled down for us over the fourth but I see it's creeping up there once again. I couldn't believe that our 20% chance of rain actually panned out for us. God knows we need it! Have a blessed day my friend.
ReplyDelete.38 is a had the price od brand names!! I think it tastes the same with a little bit of butter nd salt.
ReplyDeletehope your tests are all ok....
we have a heat advisory here...it is so stinking hot!
oppressive heat can drain you and make you feel light-headed so quickly. be safe.
ReplyDeleteIt is HOT here! But I love the summer. I agree about the store brands some are just like the name brands. The only one who ever notices the difference is my son!
ReplyDeleteHave a great and cool weekend Beth!
Blessings, Joanne
This heat is awful. I think it's supposed to finally break on Sunday - but that's still 2 days away!
ReplyDeleteYou'll miss this next winter!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt used to work in a canning factory and she said with the exception of one brand (one of the big ones but I for get which) the only difference was the labels they put on the can. There is almost nothing I would buy canned that I would refuse to buy the store brand - canning pretty much levels most quality. There are only a few things where I would have a brand preference over the store brand and those are not canned items.
OHH you better take it easy and please know I have you in my prayers :)) That is a great deal on the veggies peas are the only veggie I can not stand canned I like them frozen or fresh no can :-{
ReplyDeleteWe will be getting some of your heat (so to speak)after the weekend. Up until then you couldn't ask for nicer weather. 82, sunny with low humidity. But as they say around here, "Wait a minute.)
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteTake care in that heat, wow, I think that might floor me. Here it is muggy and wet.
Have a good weekend
Hugs Nita
They say today is our last killer heat day. I do hope they are right. And..I also hope your testing went well today!
ReplyDeleteI can tell the difference between the store brand in one store and a national brand..note I said 1 store. Its corn kernels in the can were like bullets.
ReplyDeleteThe heat is terrible. I love to shop at our Food Depot. I bought fresh raspberries and cherries there today.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice weekend; take care in this heat.
I seldom buy cans anymore, but the store brand in some items is as good as the big name.Stay cool in this awful heat.
ReplyDeleteI am late too - no worries. Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteStay safe and happy, Beth. BGB
ReplyDeleteIt finally cooled off up here today--70s! But the humidity is higher than the temperature. I still couldn't resist opening the place up, though. I hope it cools off for you soon! :)
ReplyDelete38 cents???!!! WOW! Unfortunately for me, in our town, we have one grocery store, Walmart and Sams....that's it. We live in a town that had 55,000 the in the 2000 census....I never heard what it was last time. It has to be 80,000. Can you believe that???? ONE grocery store...oh, there are two of the same kind in our town....and one of the same kind about 5 miles away in another little town, but NO CHOICE. Back in the 70's and 80's, we had Safeway (2), HEB (2), Piggly Wiggly (2), Winn Dixie, and Krogers. Now, there is a monopoly. I don't consider Sams a grocery store since you have to buy a ton of whatever you buy. We NEVER have bargains like that. You are lucky.
ReplyDeleteBe careful in the heat. Here in Texas, we have summers like this every year. You really should try and get everything done in the morning as early as you can. Once it hits noon, you should be in where it is cool. There are days when we can drive down the street at 3 on my way to work and it looks like a ghost town. You can quickly dehydrate. If you have to be out, be sure and take along some water and drink, drink, drink....and NEVER wait in the car when it's that hot. Kids die every year here from some parent thinking it will be alright to leave thier kid in a locked car for a few minutes while they run in....and it wasn't.
You having a cool weather soon after getting much better for you and I will like to warm weather coming soon.
ReplyDeleteA bargain Beth some store brands are good as some or not.
ReplyDeleteStay cool and have a good weekend.
Hugs Sheila xx
Stay safe & cool. Have a nice, relaxing weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth Sorry to have neglected you all for so long, but I'm only just getting my head together after my USA holiday. I've blogged the first part, and put up some photos, so go ahead and have a look. I couldn't believe the heat when i was there especially in Washington. My daughter couldn't stand it. I do hope you're keeping your strength up and take care.
ReplyDeleteI am picky about some store brand, too, and haven't had good luck with some store brand granulated sugar I used when baking cakes for competition in the local fair!
ReplyDeleteSerious storms through the area here Thursday evening downed many trees, along with other damage/loss of life.
Take care of yourself, and stay cool!
xo Nellie
