Tenacious Thursday…

and the heat wave just keeps on keeping on.  We are fortunate here in central  Illinois as we are just having the terrible heat.  My nephew in Charleston WV has been without electricity  since last Friday night after a powerful thunder storm.  He had to discard a freezer and refrigerator full of food.  My heart goes out to those still suffering from power outages.  This heat wave is supposed to break next Monday and I hope that it does.

Yesterday was an uneventful day.  I heard all of the fireworks last night but didn’t go anywhere to watch them.  I even had the TV off and read while I listened to the loud booms.  And America is a year older!

This morning I do have to get out to mail some letters and early tomorrow morning I have another test at the hospital.

Some news in the morning paper has led me to another rant.  At Hallendale Beach Florida a lifeguard, Thomas Lopez, helped save a drowning man and got fired for it.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/04/tomas-lopez-lifeguard-fired-hallandale-beach_n_1649803.html.  if you haven’t read this you have to click on the link and read it.  Thomas, my hat is off to you!

And another newsworthy thing.  I got a beautifully embossed thank you card from Sherman’s, the place where I purchased my TV last month.  Are they out for more business or what??  I saw on the internet that the Better Business Bureau had given this store an A+ rating.  My thank you note had a handwritten message in it signed by one of the biggies.  Terrible handwriting but the thought was there and my faith in mankind upped a little bit.

I do need to get going before it gets any hotter.  Predicted high for today actual temp is 101.

Stay cool and stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. This heat has got to stop sometime...doesn't it?? Supposed to get to 104 here...I'm off to water the garden and then I'm canning green beans today.

This heat is taking it out of me..all I want to do is sleep...

Let us know about the test tomorrow. I think it's great about the thank you card. We could use a little better customer service these days !!!

  2. So much HEAT and some without AC? Oh that's just terrible! Then to think of no cold food...like 'Little House on the Prairie' days.

  5. We watched fireworks on TV, following the local Symphony performance. There have been times when we have attended this occasion, but not for several years. We just don't want to fight the traffic.

My husband has already finished his outside garden work this morning. Seems the heat is on!

My heart goes out to those who are still without power from last Friday's storms.

    Have a good Thursday!

    xo Nellie

  6. Sorry about all the heat. It's been warm here but not like the folks around your way. The leg is better though not nearly 100%. I hit the doctor a bit later on.

  8. I got a thank you from the business that sold and installed my new heat and air system too. But not hand done. :-))

Looks as though you and I have similar weather. I went out yesterday and sweat some doing errands and working out. NO one here after 1300 so I spent the day reading and "computering". Oh, and waiting on and serving Miss Katie.

  9. Spent my fourth indoors trying to keep cool. Never seen such a stretch of high temps, we are breaking all kinds of records. I saw the reports about that lifeguard. I think good things will happen for him. All of his fellow lifeguards QUIT also because they said any of them would have done the same thing. God Bless them they do save lives. Hope your tests go well. XX00

  10. What a nice gesture to send a hand-written note! I feel so bad for the people so long without electricity. I hope it gets repaired soon. I heard about that story on the news this morning. Crazy, huh? Enjoy your day!

  11. Hot here, too. It has to be dreadful for the people without electricity--on so many levels. We use electricity for everything these days!
My hat's off also to all the other lifeguards who quit in support of Thomas! That is probably the only thing that got the company's attention. How could anybody watch somebody drown!! Let alone a trained lifeguard! Good for all of them!
That personal note--wow! Now that's not something you see every day! Nice!
FYI--This Old Friends song is a different song than the one by Simon and Garfunkel. I did remember this one when I heard it, but it's not the same song as the one I posted. I like this one, too, though. :)

  13. Both my brother's and my niece have been without power since last Friday's storm. They live in Barboursville & Salt Rock, just about 40 minutes west of Charleston. My sister lives there too and she lost part of her chain link fence, part of the roof on her storage building and it even blue her gas grill across the deck and bent it up pretty bad.

  14. It actually was cooler yesterday for us and much cooler today as well. I hope it helps with the fire situation since it's been very bad here. I have noticed that in years past when the 4th is past the season seems to quickly pass, I wonder if that will happen this year. I pray that the season's progress will bring relief for the suffering as well, have a great day my friend.

  15. Let's hope for much more comfortable weather for everyone. And I hope we will quit saying there is no global warming and start listening to what we can do to make it less awful. I'm sorry for everyone effected by the heat and suffering expensive losses of food etc.

We'll hope for good news for you in tomorrow's test. BGB

  17. It's beastly out there. he he - we were a whole 3 degrees cooler today than you were. I've had it with the heat, but there isn't anything we can do about it except be thankful we have air conditioning. I too feel bad for those without.

  18. Someone said "this is the global warming" come to bit us in the butt. Maybe. It is still hot and very humid here in Minnesota. Thankfully we have electricity! Stay cool:)

  21. Hello Beth the first thing I noticed on your blog was the beautiful header and wise words from you sister Beth. She is very smart.
I do hope that all who have lost their power and suffering with this heat will soon see some relief and power. I also hope it rains on those wild fires destroying hard working people's dreams. There is a lot of heartache out there.
That is very unusual for a hand written letter I like that.
I hope you got all your errands done and are home and cool. B
