Looking at old photos again..

I did this remarkable thing on Saturday and cleaned out the cabinet close to my computer.  Of course I was looking for something as I definitely don’t like to clean out cabinets.  I found lots of things I had forgotten about, a few things that made me cry and a picture of me with my mother taken around 1970.  My next older sister, Ebby, was being smart and was standing directly behind me.  I had 4 sisters and 3 of us were the same height (5 ft. 4 1/2 in ) except for my oldest sister, Corrie, who was about 4 ft. 11 in.  She took after my grandmother on my mom’s side.

mom and me

My mother looks so sad in this picture and that made me sad for a little while.  I found some stuff to shred.  All in all I had a mess all over my living room floor for about 3 hours.  I did, however, find what I was looking for and by that time I was too tired to care.  So I straightened up the living room and sat down with another John Sandford book.  He is my favorite author and he is a real hunk to boot.  LOL

  3. Lovely picture even with the sad look. Funny how you were all the same height but one. My sisters and I range both by height and year. I the oldest, the tallest and on down the line.

I need to clean this area too. Now to get at it. That is the problem, ;-).

  5. Oh Beth, this is very topical for me, I am clearing out big time. My lounge is a complete mess and how even a quarter of it all will fit into Amanda's I am not sure :) Anyway I haven't cried yet, but some things I had forgotten have made me smile, about to blog about one of them.

    Hugs Nita.

  6. Hi Beth I'm sorry I haven't been here lately. I feel the same about old pictures that I find. I look at my Dads face in pictures and I just think of how much he loved us and how hard he worked for us. The fact that you became sad when you saw the picture shows how much you loved and still love her.
    Blessings, Joanne

  7. I understand how you felt when you saw your mother's sadness. My father has Alzheimers and I've noticed he rarely smiles anymore! I miss that! So glad you found the treasure of an old picture, though!! Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and being my newest follower! I am now your newest follower!! :)

I will have to check out John Sandford's novels since I'm from Minnesota.

  13. Loving your header picture! I do that too - look for something and spend hours going 'through' everything I come across - especially pictures - sometimes they make me laugh or make me cry - miss my folks so much! I hope you're having a blessed day,
    Kathy

  15. Your are the same height as me. Yes when I see pics of my mom they often make me sad. Ok don't you just hate when you go into something in search and end up doing a major cleaning or just re-looking at stuff that you haven't seen for awhile. But it is good to go through it once in while to get rid of stuff and discover treasures you had long and forgotten. Well at least you did find what you were looking for. Enjoy your book. Have a wonderful week Hugs Carrie

  16. I love seeing old pictures...I also love to scrapbook black and white pictures. Sometimes I go to antique stores, and buy old photos just so I can make different layouts.
I bet your sister was a prankster or just shy?

  17. I can't tell you how many times I have been there and done that. Coming across pictures that awakens memories of those we love and miss so much. Every time I make soup I think of my mom. Every time I make pork chops, mashed potato's and milk gravy I think of my dad. They've been gone for years but it never fails. That is a great picture of the two of you. You were then and are now quite the looker Beth. With your sister standing behind you like that makes it look like you have an extra arm lol.

  21. Funny how we can come across treasures when we aren't even looking for them.... but when we search high and low for something, it's seldom anywhere to be found. I love looking through old photos and remembering all the memories. Actually sometimes, I don't really KNOW or REMEMBER that I have old photos on my laptop or backup drive or even stuffed in boxes and albums in my closet. When it's the "empty-up-the-laptop-time" or clean out closet time of the year and all the pictures come up, the "empty up in 10 minutes" session becomes something like a memory lane for hours and hours session :) Hahah, glad you mentioned this. BRB as I look for old pictures again!

  22. Since you are smiling in the picture and your sister is acting silly, your mom couldn't really be sad, or surely the two of you would have been trying to console her....and your sister wouldn't have taken a picture of your mom being so sad....maybe it was like when my grandmother would cook something and she would say, "I don't think it's gonna' be fit to eat", and she would be all worried about it...and it was always delicious. Maybe she thought she (or whoever cooked them) burned the hamburgers.

  25. You too are a John Sandford fan! I discovered the Lucas Davenport series this year and have already read over half of them! I've had to slow down because if I'm not careful I will run out of them and then won't have any more to read. I understand he has a new book, not Lucas Davenport. I also like the Jason Kidd novels. I'm reading them all in order so as not to miss anything. I think Sandford is my favorite mystery writer!

  26. That is a lovely picture of your mom, even if she is a little sad. I'm sure it brought back lots of memories for you. I LOVE John Sanford. He's another favorite author, and I believe I have read all his books, except for maybe the last one.

Glad you got your cabinet cleaned, though, and found what you were looking for.
I don't know if I have ever read John Sanford. Being Minnesota born and raised, I will have to check him out. ;)

  28. That picture is really interesting. What was your mother thinking at the time? I love all your old photos you find. It's a window from another time.

Glad you have hunk to keep you busy:)

  29. Your mom does look like she has something on her mind in that photo. Old photos are such a treasure. Good for you on getting a cabinet cleaned out. I need to clean out a few around here.

  30. I like looking at old photos too, and often wonder what we were thinking of at the time, your Mum does look quite pensive,or maybe the camera just caught her at the wrong moment. Your sister looks like a shadow behind you, if you hadn't said she was there I'd never have spotted her. Don't spend too long with that handsome man Beth, or you won't be in a state to post any more. LOl
