Why is it…

that when you go to the car dealership for something they always find something else??  I went to the Buick dealership this morning for a new battery.  They found over $300 worth of things that need to be done in the future.  At least it wasn’t written in red.  The new battery cost almost $200 including the labor.  I have decided to wait till spring on this and then I am going to either get a new car or a good used one.  My car is a 2002 Buick Lesabre with less than 85,000 miles on it.  I did find out that the battery is located under the passenger side in the back seat.  I had no idea!

I have been to the bank this morning, Walmart, Food Depot and dropped some books off at Goodwill.  I checked Food Depot for the Hostess Snacks and they have filled that shelf with something else.  However while we were at he car dealership my daughter found a lone Hostess Ding Dong in the vending machine.  For the sake of nostalgia we shared it.  Not a Twinkie to be found in town.

Anyway the morning was very busy for me so I think I am going to rest awhile.  I am on an antibiotic now too and I am pretty stressed out.

I hope you all have a great week.

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. And I thought my daughter's Dodge Stratus had it's battery in a weird place! It was under the fender well on the driver's side. You had to take off the tire and take the fender well loose to get to it. I think they did that so most people would go back to the dealership for a battery!

My kids used to eat so many twinkies and ding dongs that they'd almost get sick! We haven't bought any since they were in jr. high. I'm sad they are going out of business. I'm sad when anyone in America goes out of business now. What are we going to do?

Keep taking those antibiotics til you are through with them so you won't relapse!

  2. Would you believe that I'm driving around in a 92 Buick Skylark with less then 120,000 miles on it and it still runs like a top. I'll keep until it falls off the tires lol. Happy Thanksgiving Beth if I don't get back here before then. Take care!

  3. I'm so lucky to have a husband who knows all about cars. He can usually do all the work that our cars need.

  4. Get a Subaru! All wheel Drive. Outstanding handling, quality and durability.
I have the Impreza Hatchback. price is really good as well.

but yes I know what you mean about dealerships. Once I took my former Ford Explorer for a simple oil change. and they said I needed the entire differential fluid flushed out and changed.... Yea right! Senior said there isnt enough miles for that yet..

  6. Beth, we never go to the dealer unless it is under warranty. We find a good shop in town with reasonable rates and take the car there. We saved about $250 on the last thing that needed fixing. Always cheaper than the dealer. call around and get price quotes.

  7. Don't stress:) Ding Dongs are my favorite. I ate them over Twinkies:) Cars will always have costs. I wish I knew more about cars:) We'd save lots of money! But don't stress. It's not worth it:)

  8. With cars it's always something. We have a 1994 Chevy Yukon, and a 2005 Suburban. Had to put a new fuel filter in the Yukon and so far nothing but regular maintnace in the Sub. Keeping the fingers crossed as the sub is used to tow the camper. My Hostess love is Susie Q's. Darn people.

  10. Oh don't get me started on car dealerships. I've had my present car for a little over a year. I brought it in for my free oil change. When I went to pick it up they had done $400 worth of brake work without even contacting me. It's back to my regular mechanic. I've gone to him since 1985. He's always been square with me. A good mechanic is worth his weight in gold.

  11. I try to think of car repairs as better than a car payment each month. Lol but hard on the pocketbook.

  12. It never fails and it seems cars get to that point where they nickel and dime you to death. Blessings- I hope you feel better- xo Diana

  15. We were amazed to hear the cost of automobile batteries these days! Also, the location of the battery is a real change! I suppose there is a good reason behind that.

Sending the best to you, Beth, for a relaxing, stress-free evening!

  16. It does seem like the car repair people always find something additional that needs to be fixed. The Hostess products have all been sold out around here too. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving!

  18. Gone are the days of the $50 batteries. It costs that much for one for your cell phone!

  19. Car repairs can be breathing-takingly expensive sometimes. We always get our batteries at Sears -- Die Hards and have had good luck with them. Sears usually replaces them free if they go out within the warranty period, which happens frequently here in Arizona with the hot, hot summers. Glad you were able to find and share a last Ding-Dong. Now I hear today, that the Hostess bakery union may make some kind of deal and Hostess might not be gone for good after all. We will have to wait and see. Enjoy your day tomorrow and get well soon.

  20. Having to pay that much for a car battery and the odd place it is in the car is so surprising. It stresses me to go to Honda for the protective coating.

  21. You know it is hard for us women to find a good and honest car dealer. Hope you feel better. sandie

  24. Cars can be a pain. When my battery went dead I didn't have a clue as to where it was. After reading the manual I found it under a cover in the trunk. At least it's not easy for anyone to steal.
I hope you are feeling better soon and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  25. Hubby is a mechanic. He knows cars and planes. :) You should definitely get a second opinion and maybe a third. You can always find free inspections.
Hope you feel better. Are you baking for Thanksgiving?

  26. Sounds like a bit much for a battery. Find a different mechanic..some places will nickle and dime you to death. Hope you feel better soon:)

  28. I'm am so lucky that my sister works for chrysler and is a car nut. At least I always know they are telling the truth and will fix it right. (or my sister goes on the warpath and that's a scary thing...trust me...)

  29. Boy, ain't that the truth? When I go for an oil change, they always come out with a list of stuff that needs to be done. I won't always do it. It depends. They are never in it for you..it's all about your money. Just the truth.

  30. Both Terry and Boston Boy are right! My husband says the same thing and a good and honest mechanic is your best bet. It sounds like you are doing a lot of stuff and need to rest more. Being so busy when you have stresses simply is tiring. Be well and feel better soon....

  32. It's sad now that they go out of business they seem like going like hot cakes.

Sorry about the car :(. It never seems to end.

Hope you are feeling better, take it easy today.

  33. My car is a year older and has a few more miles but I hear you on things you can do for a vehicle. Hostess stuff was sold out everywhere here too though I've heard some rumors they will somehow pull things together...makes you pity the fools on e-bay buying Hostess products at ridiculous prices eh? Take care my dear friend.

  34. I'm behind on blogs. I hope you're not as stressed out now. Turkey day tomorrow. :) I was never a big fan of Twinkies, but I loved the hostess cupcakes--even if I haven't actually had one for many years. As soon as they say they're gone, then you want one--LOL! ;) Have a great Thanksgiving!! :)
