Waiting for things to get better..

Here I have been waiting for things to get better.  Just waiting and not doing much to help things move along.  Getting up each morning after a rather sleepless night, struggling to get my meds down, one at a time instead of taking several at one time.  Deciding what flavor of Ensure to have for breakfast when just the sight of the Ensure bottle nauseates me.  I declare that Ensure is the most awful tasting supplement ever created.

Enough of the moaning and groaning.  When my daughter comes over today I am going grocery shopping to see if there is anything that comes close to Ensure without the nauseating taste.

I first entered the hospital on July 23.  I had the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck removed.  I found out later they were benign.  (This changed the course of my treatment).  Then I had implants put in my mouth to deliver radiation directly onto my tongue.  I was fitted with a lead device that was designed to protect my teeth and jawbone. It was all extremely painful.  Then 2 weeks later I went in the hospital again for the second round of radiation.  And now the radiation is done.  I can never have any more.

I hope this is a good week for us all.  I appreciate the kind thoughts and prayers.  Stay safe and be happy!

Beth

  4. Beth,
I have saying prayers for your treatment success. When one of my family members needed to drink ensure we mixed it with some ice cream and put it in a blender. It helped with the taste.

  5. Oh Kim has a great idea! I know from another blogger who must take Ensure that it is very important to get the nutrition and it will help you recover more quickly. I can imagine that the radiation has changed the flavor of things for a bit. Keep looking up, Beth. Standing with you in prayer believing for better days soon ahead.

  7. Moan all you want to. You have been through a lot and carrying on the best you can. Whatever you have to do you do and that's is what matters - even if the supplement tastes yucky!

  8. the lead device sounds pretty awful! i know when my mil got sick and her doc tried to keep weight on her with ensure, she couldn't stand the sight of it any longer.

  9. Beth, I pray that our Lord will heal you of all this. It's kind of hard to think straight when we are bogged down with worries. We are human ,we will worry. Ensure might taste better whipped up with some ice cream:):)Just do chocolate flavor. Thinking of you sweet Beth. Sending hugs to you. xoxo,Susie

  10. Beth I have come via Ramblington's blog and wanted you to know I am keeping you in my prayers and thoughts. When I am weary I always give myself over to God and say "lead me to the rock that is higher than I". Many blessings.

  11. I'm laughing about the Ensure. Yes.....I don't think there is anyway around the stuff!:) Sorry you have to go through this liquid food treatment. Keep your spirits high. My friend had a cancer around her mouth and she was a smoker. It was removed and all clear. Hang in there and you are in my thoughts.

  14. Lots of hugs Beth.
Hang in there. I just wish that diagnosis and treatments did not have to use so many different devices. I hope that every thing works out for you to be pain free and get well and be well in the long run.

  16. Have you tried adding a banana or some other fruit to the ensure and then putting it in the blender? I did that for my dad and he used to like it a lot better.

Praying that each day gets better for you.

  20. I have never tasted Ensure. I thought it might be tastey. The commercials make it sound good - but I guess not. Glad that you are hanging in there. It is always good to read your posts. You remain in my prayers and you are on the prayer role at my church. Take care and get well.

  21. Beth I'm so hoping and praying that you have a better week this week. Each day should get better - might be hard to see the improvement, but it will be there. Yes, there is another brand besides Ensure. I just can't think of the name of it. If I discover it, I'll write another comment. I preferred Ensure over the other brand myself, but everyone's taste is different. None of them taste very good that's for sure. Hugs and prayers.

Oh, I had to change the URL of my blog back to the original one. I explained it in a post when you are up to reading it. It's back to http://shufflingalongwithparkinsonsdisease.blogspot.com/

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  22. Maybe you could ask if you're allowed to have herbalife shakes. They're delicious, and my nutritionist said they're a good product. I have recipes for all sorts of delicious protein shakes. I got them from Melynda Fleury, who used to blog and now just does herbalife. Let me know if you want her number. She can help you with all sorts of nutrition issues. I drank Ensure once. I couldn't get through a single can.

    Love,
    Janie

  28. Hi Beth, You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully, things will begin to turn around for you. My hubby drank Ensure when he wouldn't eat anything. He preferred the chocolate and it had to be cold. I would try it with the ice cream. Why do they have to make things that people need to taste yucky?? I hope you get to feeling a little better and isolation is no fun. We are all praying for you and will. Many Hugs and Prayers from a Missouri Friend.

  29. God bless you, Beth. What an awful ordeal to have to go through. One of our friends had a similar thing- It has been about 15 (?) years ago and he is still cancer free-and he had lymph nodes that WERE cancerous, too. Praying for a complete recovery for you. Hopefully, the worst is over. xo Diana

  31. Just tonight when I went to work, I found out that the mother of a woman I work with has tongue cancer. She found out this past week. Until you said that was what you have, I had never even heard of this type of cancer. I told her about you and that you had undergone radiation. That is what they are planning for her mom, too. I will be praying for you both. Hugs.

  36. Dear Twin...let me know what you got. E. liked Boost, but it doesn't have AS much protein as Ensure which tastes horrible. Drink twice as much of one you can stand.

  37. Oh Beth I am sooo sorry you are going through this! I haven't been around for the last month or so so I am sorry I haven't been by to read what has been going on in your life. I agree Ensure is the most vile taste...My Mom has to drink it too. I am praying hard that this all will become a memory and you get better really soon. Would carnation instant breakfast have the nutrients you need?...It does taste a bit better. Praying hard for you
    Blessings, Joanne

  42. I've been away all summer helping with an aunt who still isn't well...she uses Boost and blends in fruits and ice cream, making a kind of shake...probably much better when it's extra cold from the fridge...
So sad to read through your posts and see how unwell you've been...hope, so much, that you'll be well and feeling better soon...

  43. Sis..continuing to pray for you daily for your strength. Try the boost and as the pharmacy what else you can stand. I found Boost better than the ensure stuff hands down. You can always try new things until you get something you can tolerate. Hugs to you I know it is soo very hard. You are never alone dear one.. we are always right beside you.. <3 to you XOXO

  47. I am sending you a big (((((hug)))))) right now. I just found you through Diana's blog. When life seems like it is tough, there is always someone else who is walking down a road worse than our own. Beth, I am sorry that you are walking through this unfortunate journey. May God, our loving father, hold you tightly in his arms and give you the strength and courage to beat the cancer's butt. Be strong, stay strong...hold your head high and just remember that in faith our walk, our lonely at times path..though hard and so very difficult...is paved with hope and strength. Faith has kept me focused in life. I pray you will be healed. Pray. Pray. Pray.

    from California, with love,

    Becky
