Good Morning Everyone…

It is a great day to be alive and aren’t you  glad we both are?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_a_Great_Day_to_Be_Alive

I have picked up a cold somewhere but other than that I am happy to be back in what I call home again.  The insurance adjuster is checking all buildings on Saturday so perhaps I will get my window replaced soon.  I have one more picture to show you how the Good Lord looked out for me on Sunday.  And then no more pictures as they are depressing.

There is a driveway that separates me from my friend Barb’s home.   You can see what is imbedded in her roof.  She has definitely been displaced.  This happened right over her kitchen area.

I am sitting here drinking a cup of Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea with a big shot of real honey in it trying to nip this germ I have picked up.  It is raining and is supposed to grow colder this morning and change all over to snow.

I want to thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers for my neighbors and for me during this trying time.  A special thanks to my family for taking me in and giving me a port in the storm even though they were without electricity too.  Spending Monday night in a nice hotel was quite an experience.

Big semis have been loading debris from the damaged houses for the last 2 days.  For White Angel what happened here in Pekin IL was a tornado.  There were 21 tornadoes that hit various parts of Illinois  last Sunday.  This particular one was hit and miss all over the north part of Pekin which is where I live.  It picked up velocity as it moved through several cities until it reached Washington IL which is about 20 miles from here.  There it  caused extreme widespread devastation.

Have a good weekend.  Stay safe and be happy!!

  2. I can't say as I blame you for not wanting to show more pictures. They really break my heart whenever I see any. Family is usually the best port in a storm. I know yours is right there for you. Thank them for us.

  3. Oh Beth, you were blessed to have had just a little damage. I kept looking at the weather channel and knew Washington wasn't that far from you. We're so thankful you are still alive and do have a home left. Now I hope it doesn't take too long to get that window replaced. Take care of that cold. http://shufflingalongwithparkinsonsdisease.blogspot.com/

  13. I don't think I realized you lived in Pekin, or it escaped my notice, as so many facts do. I used to drive past the exit to Pekin all the time when I went from Springfield to Jacksonville, IL. My older sister bought a beautiful antique dining room table from someone in Pekin. Now I can picture where you are.

    Love,
    Janie

  14. Your tea sounds delish. I too don't blame you for not showing anymore photos of the damage. But it gives us who were not in the area a dose of reality. Hope you nip that cold in the bud. Hugs to you!

  15. Yes...good to be alive and not injured sipping tea. (Your tea reminds me that I have some of that! ) If you ever doubt that God was taking care of you, you have this to remind you and with pictures, too. So glad that the adjustor will be coming through tomorrow.

  16. When something like that happens it really does make you think of all the things we have to be thankful for.
Hope your cold is mild and leaves quickly.

  17. Sure hope you plow through your new challenge - a cold! I'm amazed at how you can still take pictures and hang in so well after all this. Honey tea sounds like a good idea plus chicken soup/broth!

  19. I am glad you are safe, Beth! I love herbal teas, they are very soothing and helpful in cold weather and help colds, too. If you can, take a piece of fresh ginger (about an inch), peel it and grate it, then slice it and put it into a cup. Pour boiling water over it, then add a little fresh lemon juice and some honey. I try to have this a couple of times a day when I have a cold, ginger works wonders! Take care.
