Snowing and…

the temp right now is 23 degrees and the countdown to spring is 70 days.  The side streets here in town are unplowed and it is treacherous going.  But I did make it to the stores for the first time in 7 days.  My cabin fever is temporarily halted.

I made it to the pharmacy for prescriptions and then to a couple of the grocery stores for restocking.  I still forgot to get baloney!!  No milk or bananas in Krogers.  In fact there were signs posted all  through the store about how their trucks couldn’t get here from Indianapolis!  Schnucks had milk and bananas but I still forgot the baloney.

I was able to get necessary ingredients for chili which was important.  When I made chili on the weekend I was almost out of chili powder and my chili was way too bland.  Ground round was on sale for $4.79 a pound but  you had to buy it in a big package to get the sale price. I plunged right in and bought an almost 5 lb pkg and now I am browning it off in a big pot and will separate it and freeze to have ready for cooking.  I would have saved part of it for a meat loaf since Debbie’s looked so good yesterday but I decided I was too lazy to do that.  I also bought a big chicken to cook on the weekend.

I will be late with my post again tomorrow as I have 2 doctor appointments.  And then a 3rd doctor appointment next Tuesday.  Then I hope that is it for a few weeks.

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  3. Glad you made it to the store. My house is bare right now as closing house and fridge has to be empty. But when I do shop I always buy extra milk and freeze it so I always have some for coffee. Well Beth hope you have a winter filled with no unpleasant surpises. I won't have interent for a few months but hope to check facebook now and then. Take care and stay warm. Spring is just around the corner.. Hugs Carrie

  5. I hope your appointments go well. When we lived in western Maryland we had a blizzard once that prevented deliveries to grocery stores for about a week. We couldn't have gotten to the store anyway, but when we finally got out and about, I saw a Food Lion truck. I followed it to the store and went straight to the dairy department where an angel granted me two gallons of milk.

    Love,
    Janie

  8. Well that is good that you got out. Crazy that the stores are still having trouble staying stocked. I wish I could send you the pack of baloney that sits in my fridge. Boys were on a baloney kick there for a while and now are off it.

  11. Pleased you were able to go to the shops. Good luck next week.
You have me looking up some of the shops you go to plus some of the American English - there is sometimes a big difference :) however it's very interesting.

  12. It's finally warming up here too, but now freezing rain, changing to snow tomorrow is predicted. So glad you could get out a bit yesterday. We got out too - just a couple of errands, but it felt good.

  13. Bill delivers to a lot of Krogers. In fact he is now. I guess Indy was hit hard by a storm after we were. What a bad winter. Love your countdown!

  14. Funny how 23 degrees can feel warm after what we had! And chili is a really good tonic for this weather :)

  15. Hi Beth! That is so hard, isn't it, to shop for groceries with all of that snow! I was always more worried about ice in the parking lots, more than the snow. Texas experienced that ice storm last month and the grocery stores were so empty of stock. Hope you are careful, stay warm and I'll bet your home smells wonderful with the big pot of chili simmering on the stove!

  20. Ok I have heard of baloney and know it is some kind of cold meat but I have never had it don't even think you can get it here in Aus but I might be wrong. I usually have ham as my choice of cold meat or chicken meat Tim prefers devon.
