6 more weeks of winter…

But then I already knew that.  Today the sun is shining brightly and our local groundhog Gertie in Peoria saw her shadow.  This means 6 more weeks of winter.  It is 8 degrees here this morning with the sunshine glistening on the snow.  It is 46 more days till Spring.  We have more snow to come on Tuesday.

I did go out and get my car cleaned off yesterday.  The snow weighed a ton and was hard for me to lift a shovel full.  The snow that was packed against my tires I just pushed back on the sidewalk.  I wonder each time I go out to clean the snow off my car if it will be the last time.  I hate to admit it but I think I am getting too old for this.

I am just about to finish the Lisa Jackson book I am reading.  It is a page turner and I didn’t want to put it down to go to bed.  I was sitting here reading last night about 10:15 when my doorbell rang.  I think I jumped a foot.  It was only a couple of weeks ago that I received a call from the police station informing me that a registered sex offender had moved into our neighborhood.  The police do call all of the people in the neighborhood  to give them a heads up.  They give you the name, address and description of the offender.

Fortunately for me it was a delivery from a pizza place for my new neighbors.  How can can anyone eat pizza at 10:30 at night?  And then I remembered it is a young couple in their 20s.  When I was that age I could eat pizza late at night too!  Oh to be young again!!

Is everyone all geared up for the Super Bowl??  I am not a football fan but my husband sure was right from the days he played football in high school.  I must admit  that I admire the uniforms that the football players wear though.  I only like sports that I really understand like baseball featuring my beloved St. Louis Cardinals and basketball featuring my beloved ILLINI who are not doing so well right now.

Have a wonderful day.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Glad you are enjoying that book. That would have frightened me too with the doorbell ringing that late. Oh yes, to be able to eat/drink anything after 5 p.m. again!!!!!!
I'm not much of a football fan but John does enjoy watching. No big party here though!
So sorry about all that snow and you having to clean off your car. Take care and blessings to you today.

  2. Beth, Honey, when shoveling snow...do little scoops..it takes longer but isn't as strenuous. I always take a break and get a drink of water. Today was a big shoveling day for us. We were to get an inch to three last night, but woke up to about 8-10. No end in sight girl.. The plows have not come down the road yet....which means they will plow lots back into the end of our drives. So we may have to go back out. No way could I eat that late at night again. LOL. Take care if you have to go out Beth...thinking of you and wishing you well. xoxo,Susie

  4. I can't even imagine having to shovel out my car. I would never go anywhere! I blogged about groundhog day today too but with a much different twist. Hang in there. It will be spring soon!

  5. I agree with the little scoops of snow..takes a lot longer and sometimes I have to take a break but at least it is not really so heavy. Drat on the six weeks..I bet it is a lot longer for us here. I have worn a heavy coat on the 19th of JUNE..I remember it well. How sad that we have such a long winter and short spring and summer now. I will be seeing some of the game but it will not keep me from watching some other shows I like. Take care..Prayers always for you.. XoXo

  6. Oh Beth, I feel for you having to deal with that snow. i can't do it anymore with my back problems. I don't know what the answer is because you need your car., Dang snow!. 46 days to spring. i'm tacking another 20 on to that since we're so far north. it sure does beat where you started the countdown from tho.

Not a football fan so I won't even be watching it.
We have a warm 40 degree rainy day. Supposed to get cold though and with it more snow.

  10. I presume someone will help you remove the snow off your car if you are unable to do it.
It's a bit of a worry when the phone rings or someone knocks on your door late in the evening.
That's great that the Police let everyone know about the sex offender.
We don't of course have your type of football :) we rounders which is similar to baseball, which when younger played on the beach for fun. Also cricket. I am not a great sports person, but take an interest shall we say :)
Keep warm, and it's not good to have 6 more weeks of a cold winter. Amazing how it's worked out by an animal. Here if the berries are plenty, it's said that we will have a harsh winter.

  13. Here in Canada they pick the groundhog up, hug him/her and put a hat on it. LOL! :) I have taken photos of groundhogs but they are elusive and don't come right up to me.

  14. With this winter weather, pizza delivery is a God-send! Our weather here in the Lone Star State is terrible.

Yep...winter will continue...with or without ole Pete!
