Just think….

tomorrow is the first day of Spring.  I think I started counting down at 77 days.

The snow is all melted from the ground except for gigantic dirty snow banks in the parking lots at the store.  It is 44 degrees with an expected high of 45 degrees.  It is pouring down rain very nicely right now.  I had planned to go to Kroger for a few things this morning but I will wait until tomorrow now.

My son is coming home this weekend and we are celebrating his birthday which is April 8th.  I am getting ready to fix requested things such as a raisin pie which I haven’t made for some 40 odd years.  Also macaroni salad which I haven’t fixed in a blue moon.  If anyone has an exceptional easy recipe for macaroni salad please send it to me in an email.  I also have purchased a spiral sliced ham.  This will be mostly things I can fix the day before.  I think I will make the mandarin orange salad too which I love.

I have an update on my brother.  He saw the surgeon yesterday morning.  The surgeon didn’t agree with the radiologist that had read the CT scan.  So my brother will be scheduled for further tests until someone makes up their mind.  Very nerve wracking  for my brother and his wife and for Rae and me too.  I will keep you updated and thank you all for your prayers.

I saw my first robin day before yesterday.  I was in my car and I was mesmerized by the sight of it.  It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

And for my friend Mari in Madrid who is learning English:

mes·mer·ize

ˈmezməˌrīz/

verb

past tense: mesmerized; past participle: mesmerized

  1.

hold the attention of (someone) to the exclusion of all else or so as to transfix them.

Yesterday I took a list of things to the rental office that I wanted done  before I signed my lease the first of April.  I came home yesterday and there were 2 guys inside here fixing all of the things I had on my list, including changing a light bulb  in the kitchen.  I will say that all of the guys that do maintenance here are really great!!  Very efficient and friendly.

I hope the sun is shining for you all today.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Ah Spring! Finally! Get out (when the rains stop) and enjoy! And a big Happy Birthday to your son too. It'll be fun having him visit. Things finally green here too, thanks to our recent rains---but still a drought condition. Hoping for more rain this spring! Stay well!

  2. Sounds like Spring sprung there but KNOW that cold sometimes creeps back in to surprise us. Glad you can celebrate with your son. I loved the sun out yesterday, raining wildly here this morning. Sounds like your brother may need 4 or 5 opinions if they can't make up their minds. How awful for him. Prayers to you and for him and Rae always. XOXO

  7. Guess they want to keep you!

    Keeping your brother in prayer.

Have fun with the birthday gathering! Thank you for keeping our spirits up with the spring countdown. Yay for having most of the snow gone. It still sits all around us. No bare ground anywhere.

  9. Good Morning Beth, My spring updater, I would never have remembered that spring is tomorrow is it wasn't for your count down. I am sure so many up North will be so happy for warmer weather. WE hope to be back home at our ranch around the middle of April. I am sure there will still be lots of snow around when we return unless they have some summer like conditions for a week. I do hope and pray you get some better results for your brother. Wishing you a happy spring... Hugs Carrie

  20. I imagine these are worrisome times in your family. I hope and pray for a positive outcome my friend.
The rain you experience is heading our way though tomorrow at 12:57 EST. it will officially be spring and it's supposed to be a very nice day in the 50's. I will go to work in the winter and go home in the spring.
I'm not the person to be asking for recipes. Maybe Arlene has one.

  22. Sounds like you are in for a happy weekend with your son. Prayers for your brother. Tomorrow the last of our five kids will arrive from Texas. Our daughter is already here from Minnesota. We will all be together Saturday to decide what to do with Mom and Dad in their dotage. :) We've looked at independent living places that provide care later if you need it and we are looking at what it would cost to stay in our own home. I'm hoping all will show up so we can get one last picture of the seven of us together as it has been a very long time. We are praying for the right answer, what ever that is.. Happy Springtime, Beth. Bertie
