In yesterday’s post for rubbish Tuesday I posted a picture of the house close by me that was damaged by the tornado. As I was leaving for a doctor appointment yesterday morning a little after 8 there were semi trucks lined up for a block and one was backed in and the demolition began, finally. I took this picture when I came home around noon. By late evening the house was completely gone and there was nothing there but level ground. I was too lazy this morning to get out and take another picture. As you can see, the house next to it on the corner still needs to have some repair work done. I have been told that the reason for the delays is that the contractors in our area are all so busy because in the city of Washington (about 20 MILES from here) there were several hundred homes demolished.
Today they are starting work on the building across the driveway next to me that had two by fours and other objects through the roof. My friend Barb was displaced from there and she has finally moved out of town. I really miss her!
I hope you all have a great day! Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
We often see stories on the news about the immediate effect of natural disasters, but then tend not to hear any more. It is the same with the recent flooding here in the UK. We know the flood water has subsided, but I am sure there are still so many people whose homes are uninhabitable. Why did Barb move out of town? Will her house not be repaired or replaced?
ReplyDeleteglad they're finally able to do some clean-up and repair on your block!
ReplyDeleteWhen damage is so widespread, it must be very difficult for local repairmen to do all the necessary work quickly. How unfortunate that your friend has finally moved out of town. Do you expect that the homes will be rebuilt? xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how fast they can level a building, erasing traces, like it never existed. I am sorry your friend had to relocate. But I am glad you didn't have to.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are safe and made it through all of this unharmed. Illinois always has a lot of tornadoes doesn't it? My parents lived in Rockford, ILL before they got married and they said the spring storms were always severe.
ReplyDeleteThat is a much better thing to happen rather than have to see the damages going untouched. The cleanup that will have to be done after the tornadoes will be extensive and it is a terribly sad event as we are all aware. Sometimes we really wonder....
ReplyDeleteToo bad Barb had to move. At least there is some progress being made now. It always seem to take forever to clean or fix up after such disasters.
ReplyDeleteit will feel wonderful for everyone, when that work is completed!!
ReplyDeleteI bet things will look better when they remove condemned buildings or rebuild/repair them. It's cold, wet and rainy with a reprieve come...well, today here. Gloom is something I can only handle so much of so the sun is a welcome reprieve!
ReplyDeleteFirst I just can't imagine seeing the devastation from these Tornado's first hand. It's horrific enough seeing it on TV. I am glad though now that something is being done to clear up the debris.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting hard to remember bad storms as there are so many! I do remember the tornado by you and that you were with your son at a restaurant. Sorry your friend moved away. Hopefully the hood will get remodeled soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine living with a tornado threat over my head. I glad you are ok my friend.
ReplyDeleteNow maybe they will rebuild and have a nicer house than they had before. : )
ReplyDeleteHopefully spring and summer will be kinder this year to everyone in your neighborhood. But I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're safe. I've never had to deal with a tornado before where I've lived. I would just be scared out of my wits.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how much work there is still to do in your area. So many houses damaged. Too bad your friend had to move away. Hopefully this tornado season will be short and less forceful, although I think Arkansas will say this season has started out to be a bad one.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I'm so thankful you are safe. I've been out of the loop and I'm so sorry . So many people and such devastation it breaks my heart. I'm sending up prayers daily for all. Hugs and love, xo
ReplyDeleteI am very glad that that eyesore has been removed so rebuilding can happen or whatever will take place. Any chance that your friend will return or has she moved for good?
ReplyDeleteI hope this will be the last time you'll see anything like this anywhere near you. I remember thinking about you when I first heard the news of that tornado. I had hoped it wasn't close to you. But it was too close. I feel so sorry for those people effected by all his bad weather. Stay safe, Beth, and enjoy Spring and summer. Bertie
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't take long, does it, once they get started? I am sure there is so much work to be done all over....and now we have even more tornadoes and damage. Sad, so sad. I am so glad you were safe and gone that day- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteIt's good that work has started, it's the begining of getting back to some sort of normal life but so sad that Barb has had to move out of town, I hope it's only temporary.
ReplyDeleteSuch devastation...thankful that you were spared :)
ReplyDeleteI feel for the families who have lost their homes
ReplyDeleteIt must have came as quite a shock seeing it like that Beth, there one minute and then no more. Sorry to hear your friend Barb moved away that's a shame.
ReplyDeleteHugs Sheila
