How many maintenance workers….

did it take to clean up my front yard a couple of days ago??

I think I counted 8 in the middle picture and they each came in their own truck.  I took these pictures through my front door window as I didn’t want them to think I was the neighborhood watch person.  Between me and Debbie next door we are the go to place to find out what is happening in our neighborhood.  Deb is up on all of the gossip and I take the pics to document it all.  LOL

Two of the workers are chain cigarette smokers and I stood at the ready to dial 911 if they accidentally set the leaves or the paper bags on fire.  One of the cigarette smokers came to fix my furnace that had gone out on Christmas Eve year before last.  He had to keep going outside for a smoke break every few minutes.  These are both nice guys with families and it is heartbreaking to see them shortening their life that way.  Yes, I have established my role as a mom here too!  I always try to have a plate of homemade cookies here when I need something fixed.

Have a wonderful day.  I have been busy cooking as my son will be home to see me today.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  1. Beth, It's so stupid for people to not be able to control their smoking long enough to do their jobs. I used to smoke...so I know that is what you do when you have a break.LOL. I am surprised the kids don't make their father's stop smoking, since the world is in the know about the dangers. I keep an eye on things around here also. Too many opportunities for people to throw stuff out of their cars in the country....like dumping oil, that goes into the water tables. We all have to help each other....for good not bad. . Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  4. Looks as though they were doing a good job even with the smoke breaks, lol. It is sad to see people still puff on those things. I had 3 kids who smoked and we are down to one. The other two finally gave it up. Still working on Danielle.

  6. LOL- The Spy And The Snapper- I see a book in the future for you two! lol
It is so sad to see people so addicted to cigarettes. My hubby fought the addiction for years and finally beat it. I do think it contributed to his cancer.

Hope you have a great day with your son. I hope he doesn't find you in the bushes with your camera when he gets there!;>) xo Diana

  7. Reminded me of when I lived in Dallas. I hired a lawn service to mow, trim, and take care of leaves in the fall. They would arrive in 2 pickup trucks with a trailer full of mowers. They would hop out, get going, and be done in no time flat. It always amazed me how quickly they took care of business. No smoke breaks for them. The cookies are a great idea.

  8. What a big job done and you didn't have to do it! A plate of cookies must certainly sweeten the task.

  9. Do you pay dollars for this crew or it is volunteer Beth?

  10. Yes it seems the more workers the longer it drags on sometimes instead of being a quick job. Wonder how much time they take just CHATTING among themselves? Hope your weekend is good.. it is sunny here today and nice.. hear we have rain all next week.. better than snow!! ;-) Prayers for you always, XoXo

  11. oohhhh the whole smoking thing really shakes me to the core. i would give anything for the healthy bodies these peeps probably had, and they throw it away. they are adults, they know smoking kills and they continue to do it. and don't even get me started on the cost!!!

  14. Oh be glad you aren't responsible for the clean up even though it is done very differently than we would like.( Meaning no smoking during working throughout the job.) You sure are "undercover fire security" and that's a good thing!

  20. Hi Beth, Your yard is looking great I just wish I could say the same for mine. I have a brother who smokes something bad and his wife has problems because of it. He says he goes outside or the basement to smoke, but it is still on his clothes. I wish he would stop so he doesn't end up with that nasty word cancer. Cookies are always appreciated for people that help you. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

  25. The township sent out a "team" of them to fix my frontage, too. The snowplow always tears it up. I am glad they did; they did a good job!

  29. What a group! It took a tribe of men to work on our parking lot last year and I don't yet see what they accomplished. It all looks the same to me. At least you could see a difference in the end--LOL! ;)
