Lone juror holdout…

The lone juror holdout in the Blagojevich trial has been identified as JoAnn Chiakulas a retired state employee.  I wondered who she was and what her reason was for voting for acquittal.  It seems that Ms Chiakulas determined early on that the wire tap recordings merely show a rambling Blagojevich, no one organized and ready to take action.  I admire this 67 year old woman for sticking to her conviction.  However, I am far from excited that the taxpayers of Illinois will have to pay for Blago’s defense lawyers in the retrial scheduled for January 2011.  And we all should bemoan the fact that because of this woman’s conviction we will all have to pay for the team of lawyers handling the prosecution’s case.  I was OK with Blagojevich’s brother having the charges against him dropped.  I do believe he got sucked into this mess because of family loyalty.

There, I have had my say on the politics of the day.  Since I started blogging over 5 years ago I have made it a policy never to discuss politics and or religion in my posts and I have pretty much stuck to this.

The weather is warming up for today and tomorrow should be in the low 90s.  I am hoping this is summer’s last hurrah and we won’t have excessive heat in September.

I am being lazy today and not doing too much.  I have enjoyed watching the geese in my back yard and noticing how big they are getting.

I am about to decide on purchasing an e book.  I haven’t decided which one yet.  I have been to the local library and it is huge, not at all like my little library at home so I am not exited about going there.  My brother has a new e book from Barnes and Noble and he loves it.  He is going to bring it with him when he comes to see me next month so he can help me make a decision.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend.  Stay safe and be happy.

  1. I jist wonder by releasing this lady's name she is getting bad calls and stalked or worse? Remember the days when we didn't know who the jurors were? I love a big library! Enjoy the weekend my friend.

  2. I'm with Toodie about releasing the lady's name. I sure wouldn't my name released no matter how I voted.

I have a kindle 2 and really like it. It has a wireless network and I can get basic internet while driving down the highway. I can read a book, a blog or read my email.

  5. I have found that I don't prefer ebooks. I read books when I am waiting somewhere on my iPod. I don't prefer it however. I much MUCH love the feel of a physical book in my hand..falling on my face when I fall asleep with it in my hands in bed..being able to just physically enjoy choosing it and making it a friend. My age I guess.

  6. I wonder if Ms. Chiakulas got a sudden "bonus" in her state pension. I think the prosecution should have had all it's ducks in a row and a slam dunk case against Blago before investing tax dollars in such a high profile case.

  7. Oh my gosh, look at your fancy blog. I'm impressed. Very nice. The photos are amazing. I love "Jimmy and Marcia 1960."

Regarding the Blago trial...who knows what really happened in that juror room. I have been on a jury that deliberated for just a few days and that seemed like an eternity. Some of the people in the jury were, frankly, morons, who could not follow the judges directions. The Blago trials me reminds of my belief, that trial by juror is a nice democratic idea- but in practice it often does not work as it should.
