Thursday Morning…

and I am up bright and early today, 5:45 AM.  I always feel better when I am up by 6AM.  I looked out the kitchen window and lo and behold, my car is covered with snow again, after I just cleaned it off yesterday.  The temperature is 16 F and the snow is still falling.  We are in for the big chill again tonight with below zero real temps.  I don’t even want to think what the wind chill will be.  This means leave the cabinet doors in front of the faucets open and a trickle of water.

Yesterday I got really energetic and cleaned the kitchen floor thoroughly.  A job I hate  to do that I rank right up there with cleaning the bathroom.

Then wondering what to do next I made up some Old Fashioned Raisin Cookie dough.  These are my son’s favorite cookie.  As I was talking to my sis I said I guess I will end up eating all of these cookies.  And then Winking smile she told me to put them in a priority mail box and mail them to my son.  Light bulb goes off, great idea, but wait a minute, $10.95 is pretty steep to send one tin of cookies.  So I marched my little self back to the kitchen and made up chocolate chip/pecan cookie dough and put in the fridge to keep the oatmeal raisin dough company.  When I get off the computer in a few minutes I am going to bake enough cookies to fill that priority mail box.

The weeks are going by so fast.  Can you believe that it is only 59 days till spring, give or take a day or two.  I am longing for warmer temps so I can walk around the cemetery again.  I never did get that explored thoroughly.

Now, marching off to the kitchen to bake the cookies.  Which one is your favorite?  I have to say oatmeal raisin is my favorite homemade cookie.  I don’t like the kinds you buy in the store though.

Red heart  Beth

  2. And... A very good day to you Beth :)
I love the idea of posting the cookies to your son. I can imagine he's going to be quite surprised. I have two favorite biscuits; they are Butternut Snap Biscuits and Anzac Biscuits. Wishing you a happy day. With love and care from Kerrie. xOx

  3. Gee - if I had to remember to do something like your open doors and trickling of water every time it reached freezing, a disaster would soon be upon me. Isn't there anything you can do once in the Fall to prevent freezing and undo in the spring? Happily I can turn off my outdoor faucets from inside and leave them off - otherwise the worst would have happened long ago.

And this walking around the cemetery thing - househunting? Actually - I really like going through old cemeteries. And in our local one, I knew more and more of the folks whose stones I see. It could be depressing, but it isn't somehow.

  4. Oooh, they both sound delish! I have a 100 year old raisin cookie recipe that is great too. Haven't made it in year, but they always disappear fast when I do make them! Great idea! Never fear---spring will be here when it's ready. Enjoy your baking!

  6. I've never been a morning person...night all the way...not sure why but I think it's a thing passed on from my grandpa on my dad's side. The snow has been very little since December but the cold is relentless and tiresome. Roads are so bad on the side streets in some areas that I long for spring to clear the mess away. Bless you my friend, stay warm!

  7. Ricky Nelson, I don't hear him very often. I would love to send more little things to my kids through out the year, but you are right, it's very expensive when you add postage to those cute little things. What a shame. Have fun baking.

  8. COOKIES!!!!! My all time favorite is molasses, even though I'm not allowed any until I drop the weight as my doctor ordered. I can't believe how hard it is to lose a measly 10 lbs!

  9. Homemade cookies from scratch are the ONLY cookies! Especially oatmeal raisin. Molasses ones come in second place here.

I wonder if you have ever come across some of the really old tombstone epitaphs while wandering through cemeteries. I have a collection of these. Some exhibit wonderful humor.

  11. Dear Beth Marie, Oatmeal raisin cookies made from scratch rock! Winter is getting a little old, like me, but I get out for my daily walk no matter the weather. I did my floors today along with laundry and stuff. Like the place looking clean and crisp. As ever be well

  12. Oh Beth you hit the nail on the head with the choicolate chip/pecan cookies. I'm getting a glass of milk now. I shoulda washed my floor yesterday as I was off but you know what I did? A whole lot of nothing and it was great. I'm burnt out.

I neglected to mention yesterday that I thought what you did for Toodie was sweet. I did get a chuckle when she returned from her rather short "vacation". I'm still waitig to see the pictures.

As I told Toodie the same storms and temps are headed my way. More snow and below 0 temps. Yippee!

    Beth you're such a sweetie!

  13. I LOVE oatmeal cookies, plain or with chocolate chips, zowwweeeee! Just by you bringing it up, now I want them. What an influence you are, Beth. Hey, come on and move next door to me.
Cemeteries: I love those, too -- almost as much as the cookies. I've loved walking through them and reading all the stones since I was little. Fascinating stuff.
Well, we're headed back to the teens for temps again. Tomorrow I should be getting a coat I ordered and I'm really looking forward to it and apparently it's in the nick of time.
See you soon, dear Beth :D
    XOXOXO
